It was never going to be easy, but David Davis and his negotitors make a bad situation even worse.

UK tells Brussels negotiators their Brexit bill sums do not add up.

Guy Verhofstadt Brexit negotiator and Michel Barnier,
There seems to be a stock phrase in the conservative party "Book of Standard Responses", when faced with a financial proposal with which they do not agree, or perhaps more importantly, they are incapable of understanding, that they should counter with, " the sums do not add up". It can be found on the next page to the other stock response, "of course the proposals are uncosted". We have heard these inane remarks from practically every conservative politician and media fellow traveller during the last (and probably every other) general election campaign, directed predominately at the Labour Party manifesto. The remarks were fatuous then as they are now, but this time the "book" has been whipped out to respond to Michel Binier and the other EU negotiators in connection with the "Brexit Bill".

David Davis in typical pose

David Davis has acknowledged the UK has “obligations” from its 44 years of EU membership, but is refusing to say what they are. Probably because he is as much in the dark, wandering around with the rest of this conservative government, trying to find answers to the problems of Brexit, which they do not and never did understand.
In the meantime, the EU negotiators become visibly more frustrated and even angry at the appalingly slow progress during the third round of talks. Where until recently Davis and the United Kingdom negotiators were viewed in Europe as comic and a bit of a laugh, as time moves on, they are now taken to be a collection of inept individuals without a script, sense of direction or any idea what they are actually seeking to achieve. Noboby ever believed that "the deal", for the exit of the United Kingdomfrom the EU was going to be an easy process, but this government has blundered forward without plan or objective. It would be better for this country and its people, for Europe and for all involved, if the bunch of incompetents currently in Brussels were to stand down, along with Theresa May and her government and make room for Keir Starmer and the Labour party to repair the damage caused already by the British negotiators and to agree a package with Europe which is acceptable to all parties.

New Agenda on Sunday. is out! Edition of 27th August 2017

Good morning everyone.

It seems that Sky News has been given the tip off by their masters in Conservative central Office that a general election will be called soon and consequently, they should now start their attacks on the Labour party generally and particularly on Jeremy Corbyn. Yesterday the station missed no opportunity to pour out the usual smear and distortions against Labour, starting with Stephen Dixon during their breakfast show and continuing at every news item and link right through the day, to Christina Patterson on the Sky Newspaper preview in late evening shown
The BBC is bad enough, but when it comes to constant hysterical spite and venom, Sky News has no equal.

Big Ben, (the great bell of the clock of course) has fallen silent for the next 4 years as "essential repairs" are carried out on Elizabeth Tower. It seems certain that there will be some exceptions to the rule of silence, as there has been some controversey led by Theresa May herself, who said, "It cannot be rightfor the bells not to chime regularly for four years", and a handful of MPs gathered at the Houses of Parliament to mark the occasion of the bell’s final chimes.

Now that it is all over, we must be thankful that we shall be spared the ridiculous spectacle of Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor squaring up to each other, (almost) nose to knows and growling the usual pre fight insults and provocations in the hysterical hype leading up to the "big night". It has been particularly bad on television (Sky News again) with endless repeated clips and comments thrown in by the usual punits. I am sure that the combatants in this and all the other fights know how ridiculous they act and appear, and that the antics are purely for effect and hype, but do the rest of us have to have this childish stupidity thrown at us on every news programme?

Meanwhile, back in Jersey, Condor have again managed to upset a number of travelers to and from the island, with their latest ferry cancelations. This time it is the conventional ferry Condor Clipper which is to be taken out of service earlier than scheduled, "due to unforeseen additional maintenance work".
Speaking to some friends who are coming over to the mainland in early September and have had their original travel plans disrupted, it was clearly apparent what they, and many other islanders think of Condor. The Clipper, which carries freight and passengers, will be out of service for four weeks from 7 September due to maintenance work. The Goodwill will then enter dry dock for repair work for three weeks.

Sunny periods, warm and humid. The fans in our house will be in use soon it is forecast. Still at least we have not had a visit from Hurricane Harvey...yet.

And finally, A big thanks for the retweets follows shares comments likes on Facebook Twitter New Agenda and New Agenda on Sunday. I really appreciate the feedback. Thank you.

There is a case for putting freight back onto trains.

Eight people killed in crash involving minibus and two lorries on M1

Fatal accidents involving HGV's are all too common on our motorways over the past few decades with the M1, M5 and M6 being the most dangerous. As vehicles become even larger and more heavy, we can expect more congestion and regretably more death's as more vehicles add to the numbers already using our motorway network. This is a direct result of government policies since the 1960's in closing many miles of railway lines and closing vast sections of our railway network, forcing freight and other goods onto our roads. At the same time, removing any restrictions on the weight or size of goods vehicles and even allowing trailers to be attatched, has resulted in motorways being heavily congested with huge juggernauts not only from the UK, but with many originating from Europe or even beyond. It is only necessay to travel on the M6 through the Midlands, to witness mile upon mile of goods vehicles of all descriptions stretching in all directions as far as the eye can see.

I beleive that there is a compelling case for a huge public investment programme in our railway network, to open new track and produce new rolling stock to draw goods traffic back onto trains to significantly reduce the pressure on the roads and help to reduce the carnage which we witnessed yesterday.

Our thoughts are with the familes of those killed and with those affected by this awful traffic accident.

With all the "U" turns in the space of the last 4 months alone, it is amazing that this woman actually knows in which direction she is now facing, or on which course she is now travelling.
(Provided of course that she actually had an intended course and plan in the first place)

North Korea sending weapons to Syria?

North Korea shipping prohibited chemical, ballistic missile and conventional arms to the Bashar al Assad regime in Syria, in total defiance of "the international community" (aka United States and United Kingdom, shoulder to shoulder and all that belicose nonsense).
Now the United States and with the United Kingdom in tow, have the perfect opportunity to do what they have been longing to do for the past six or seven years and invade Syria to effect regime change in Damascus and replace the Bashar al Assad government with one more likely to do as they are told by Washington and the American neocons. At the same time, "the West" (aka United States again) has the perfect opportunity to attack Pyongyang and Kim Jong-Un with overwhelming, " fire and fury like the world has never seen".
In this way, good old "Uncle Sam" can rid the world of not one, but two evil dictators which pose a threat to American interests. The great tradgedy for the rest of us however, is that modern history, certainly since 1945, is littered with the effects of the Foreign policy disaters of the United Kingdom, France and United States in the Middle East, South America and Asia.
The compelling desire of the western powers to become involved in Syria, has brought about the death of thousands of Syrian civilians, men women and children, and a humanitarian crisis of epic proportions. In the case of North Korea, Donald Trump has demonstrated over the past months since his inauguration in January, that he is prepared to take the world to the brink and even beyond in his megalomanic persuit global domination.Perhaps, even now those few saner voices in Washington and in London may prevail and manage to avert a catastrophic confrontation where there will be no "winners".

England beat West Indies in two days by an innings and 209 runs. Moreover they used a PINK ball!! I assume that the ball is still leather no matter what colour it is.)

Jeremy Hunt accuses Stephen Hawking of, "most pernicious falsehoods", in respect of Haking's suggestion that the NHS was being steered towards an American style Health Insurance system and that the NHS is under threat with Hunt "cherry picking" favourable evidence to support government claims that "The NHS under Conservatives, has seen more money, more doctors and more nurses than ever in history".
Jeremey Hunt launched a spiteful and vicious attack on Hawking in attempting to defend his record as Secretary of State for Health. A post which he has held since 2012 and during that time has authorised and implemented cuts which have resulted in wards being closed, increased waiting times, fewer nurses and doctors on wards, more privatisation of elements of the NHS in health care (Virgin now provides more than 400 former NHS and social care services), junior doctors strikes and an alarming decline in the number of nurses in the profession. It is a record which Hunt has defended with lies and falsehood for the last 5 years, and he has the brazenness to accuse Stephen Hawking of peddling "pernicious falehood". Jeremy Richard Streynsham Hunt has a very unhealthy arrogant attitude and his record as Health Secretary is littered with deceit, lies and deceptions. He does not have a strong position when criticising others.

Sky News weather presenter Isobel Lang, has joined the growing list of people intent, it seems, on destroying the English language.
Given the introduction from the Sky News anchor, "It seems that we shall have some nice weather next week Isobel",
Lang responded with the now (apparently), obligatory , "Yeah, well, I mean".
If these people will insist on using the corrupted, lazy slang versions of English, why do they not just push off to the United States and live amongst those who would not even notice?

Theresa May announces yet another "policy initiative" and plan to table at the Brexit negotiations. It is promised that she has another five initiatives up her sleeve to present this week, all of which join the heap of paper on the table in Brussels and all of which have so far only drawn chuckles and shaking of heads in disbelief from the rest of the EU members. It is a pitty for the rest of us that these clowns in the conservative paty did not have a plan before embarking on this exercise, allowing Dave to call the referendum.
They are having to make it up as they go along and turning the whole Brexit question into a farce. The rest of Europe laughs at us as we lurch from crisis to crisis. Complete chaos.

The "weather" continues to have more twists, turns and red herrings than an Agatha Christie novel.Today it is raining. It may rain tomorrow but may have sunny periods. Hurricane "Gert"came and went but nobody noticed. It may get warm and humid later this week.

This is bloody outrageous.
A privileged "Toff", who also happens to be an MP, spewing lies and using terrorist atrocities to make political capital.
A shameful son of billionaire businessman and financier Sir James Goldsmith, he pours out lies, fabrication and deceit simply because he knows that he can get away with it and no one is able to effectually challenge him. He has been "getting away with it", all his life as is always the way with "privileged Toffs".

Frank Zacharias Robin "Zac" Goldsmith, is a despicable, shameful "man", hiding behind the shield of priviledge using the death of at least 14 people in Spain to promote his own sick agenda..

The posturing, sabre rattling and threats rebounding around the world from Kim Jong-Un in Pyongyang and Donald John Trump in Washington, is becoming increasingly more like a playground spat between two schoolboys. This childish performance has all the characteristics of the junior quad squabbles with each shouting that theirs is the biggest, that they can hit harder than the other followed by the "No you can't", "Yes I can" stupidity. Such exchanges are invariably created only to impress the assembled audience and establish some sort of hierarchial structure in the playground. The problem for the rest of us, is that this current round of threat and counter threat, is being waged by the leaders of two countries which both possess nuclear weapons, and also have a considerable arsenal of conventional weaponary. In other instances, we could take some small comfort from the fact that the "leaders" of countries engaged in such confrontations are sane and rational people. Kennedy and Khrushchev, Obama and Putin even Truman and Mao Zedong, have for the most part managed to keep emotions and hostility under some degree of control. Not so the case with Trump and Jong-Un who have both, since assuming office in their respective countries, demonstrated behaviour and attitudes which many view as disturbing.

Image result for grenfell tower less than 15% donations paid out

Grenfell Tower continues to reveal scandals of the "authorities" handling the disater fund and the inept "assistance" provided by local councils and charities. Two months after the disasterous fire of June 14th. less than £3 million of the £19 million donated by the pulic has been distributed to the victims. It is common knowledge that the adminstration costs and salaries for the "Charities" managing the funds is significant, but it is stretching the bounds of belief that the public contributed their donations in order to fund the salary and bonus pots for some CEO's. Another scandalous state of affairs to add to the fact that two months after the disaster, only 14 familes from Grenfell Tower have been rehoused. A shameful indictment of the "system"and a disgraceful reflection of the contempt shown towards the residents and victims.

Following the recent Independent Jersey Care Inquiry and publication of the findings into historic child abuse at Haute de la Garrenne and other places on the island, a law which protects politicians from being prosecuted for lying to official inquiries could be changed as part of an overhaul of the rules on parliamentary privilege. If it happens it is not before time.
