This photograph is a condemnation of the "International community" for 68 years of failure.

 68 Years of international failure.

Palestinian camp of Yarmouk,Damascus

This is a photograph of a Palestinian refugee camp in Damascus. Many of the people that I met from that same refugee camp some years ago, will now no doubt have children of their own. No doubt some of them will have died over the intervening years, from disease, from military actions of one sort or another, from malnutrition and some from old age. They are also, now, dying as a direct result of the Syrian civil war and the actions of the "rebels" and from the government forces.
This photograph and other images from the besieged Palestinian camp of Yarmouk, are being used by some as justification or excuse for western military intervention "on humanitarian grounds" but all too clearly as a pretext for supporting the opposition forces.
The photograph is not a a reason or excuse or reason for intervention in a civil war.
The photograph is a condemnation of the international community, the United Nations and many of the Arab states for 68 years of failure to address the fundamental issue. A condemnation for the acquiescence of those bodies in allowing such camps in Damascus, in Jordan, in Lebanon and a hundred other locations in the Middle East, to be created and perpetuated. A continuing shame of "the international community" which allows human beings, men, women and children to be born, live and eventually die in conditions of deprivation and oppression, simply because "the international community" allows Israel to occupy Palestine and refuses to impose a settlement to allow Palestinian peoples to return to their homes.
This photograph is not the result of a civil war. It is the result of western indifference to injustice and oppression and is to the eternal shame of the "the international community". Please consider that when the warmongers seek acceptance for their objectives for intervention in Syria.

Threats from the "Vote No" camp

Standard Life warns on Scots ‘Yes’ vote

A rally in support of a yes vote in the Scottish Referendum

More threats and bullying from the "Vote No" camp. Politicians, businesses and others determined to blackmail the Sottish people to reject the concept of independence.
When organised workers take a stand for a principle, pay or conditions, they are "holding the country to ransom".
When businesses and anti independence politicians use blackmail as a weapon, they are trying to preserve the status quo.
Pathetic hypocrites.

All Trade Unions links with the Labour party should be severed completely

"Unite" to consider cut in affiliation fees.

Len McCluskey  general secretary of Unite

The Labour Party was destroyed by Blair, Mandellson, Brown, Campbell and the other conspirators of "New Labour", many of whom still sit in the Commons today.
Len McCluskey is stating what many trade unions are now accepting as fact, rather than the rhetoric of Miliband minor and the rest of the party "leadership" are trotting out in seeking to preserve their positions.
It is time that the TUC and all affiliated organisation followed the lead of Unite and dumped the Labour party completely.

Ukraine in line for European Union aid package.

 http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/ukraine-uprising-eu-aims-to-woo-new-leadership-with-aid-deal-9147803.html

EU aims to woo new leadership in Ukraine with aid deal

Vitali Klitschko, talks to members in the parliament session hall, in Kiev

Just like the United States in countless countries around the world, the European Union seeks to buy influence and control outside their own borders with promises of huge sums of money, no doubt to be followed shortly by further promises of military aid, equipment and special economic deals.
All this bribery, and no doubt the associated corruption when the "defence equipment" dealers begin to ply their trade in the Ukraine, or whatever remains of that wretched nation at that time, geared to buy influence and further marginalise Putin generally and Russia specifically.
The British government of course, is eager to jump on the bandwagon, and promise £millions from our own treasury, not withstanding the fact that many people in this country are totally opposed and fed up with pouring more and more of taxpayers money into foreign aid of one sort or another. In the case of the promises to the Ukraine, the motivation for such aid is so clearly obvious that any “justification” emanating from George Osborne or Baroness Ashton is immediately exposed as duplicitous rhetoric and held in contempt by many observers.

Hague warns Russia "not to meddle in Ukraine"

In a staggering piece of hypocritical irony the British Foreign Secretary wades in with remarks which, even for his warped logic, are breath taking for sheer pomposity. Speaking on Sunday morning, William Hague warned Russia not to meddle in the Ukrainian crisis!
It seems that the European Union, the Untied States and the British government are winding themselves up (and preparing the rest of us), for some “meddling” in the Ukrainian crisis and pumping £millions of our money into Kiev to finance it.
Those who fail to learn history are doomed to repeat it

Miliband following Blair.

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2014/02/21/ed-miliband-change-labour-tony-blair_n_4834119.html?utm_hp_ref=uk

Miliband To Radically Change Labour Party Far More Than Blair

Blair and Miliband: Full circle

Miliband has still not grasped the essential truth.
The reasons for the disillusionment people feel about politics, the decline in numbers of people voting in elections, the growing perception of a rift between politicians and public has nothing to do with leadership elections within the party, reforms in the relationship between the Trade Union movement and the party or even Prime Ministers Questions in the Commons.
The problems result from the inexorable shift in policy direction of the party to the so called "centre ground" in British politics. This shift, to a certain extent commenced by Niel Kinnock but certainly carried to extreme and disastrous lengths by Blair, Mandelsson, Brown and Campbell has resulted in working people, pensioners, the sick and the unemployed, being essentially abandoned by their traditional party who have become almost indistinguishable from the Tory party. Parliamentary Labour Party members have abstained or even supported issues which have been detrimental to people and their families in this country and are in fact proposing even more of the same measures should they secure a majority at the election next year.
Unless or until such times as Miliband and the rest of the party "establishment" recognise that their traditional support base in the workplace and in the country has declined because the party has joined with the morass of the populist center ground. Condem coalition government disasters should now mean that Labour are streets ahead in public support.
Clearly, that is not the case and the rot in the Labour Party will not be removed by, "reforms more far reaching than those under Tony Blair".

From Spooks to Line of Duty.

'Line Of Duty'  Keeley Hawes As DI Denton

Keeley Hawes in "Spooks" as Zoe Reynolds

I first saw Keeley Hawes in the terrific "Spooks" as Zoe Reynolds. (She ran off with an Irish photographer, but that's another story), then in the awful remake of "Upstairs Downstairs" which should have been consigned to the dustbin rather than shown on television.

Ashes to Ashes

Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes were classic series both now in my collection of boxed complete series. First with Sam Tyler and then Alex Drake with Gene Hunt, Ray Carling and Chris Skelton making up the cast for a quality British television series at its best.
Line of Duty is following in that tradition.

Lemurs: The world’s most threatened mammal group.

Lemurs could be extinct 'very soon' experts warn

Ring-tailed lemur group

The Critically Endangered Black and white ruffed lemur has been kept at the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust in Jersey since 1982 together with other species of Lemur including the Ring-tailed lemur(Conservation Status: Near Threatened), the Alaotran gentle lemur (Conservation Status: Critically Endangered), the Red-ruffed lemur (Conservation Status: Endangered), and the Red-fronted brown lemur (Conservation Status: Data Deficient).
The Durrell Trust does valuable work in attempting to conserve wildlife in a number countries around the world for a number of species, not only the lemur.
We joined the Trust on a visit to Jersey some years past and have been members ever since. Our particular interests are the Gorilla and the Sumatran Orangutan, both critically endangered.

Durrell is not a zoo (I hate zoo's) albeit that it is marked on the tourist literature and signposts as such, more for convenience of location than accuracy of function.
A visit to their website ( http://www.durrell.org/) provides much information on the work that the trust does in attempting to mitigate the effects of disruption (all too frequently man made disruption and destruction) on wildlife habitat causing species to become endangered or even extinct.

British Royal family condones a barbaric, medieval autocracy

Prince Charles Criticised For Taking Part In Saudi Arabian Sword Dance

Prince Charles taking part in an "Ardah"

Perhaps Charles discussed and crticised the Saudi involvement in the savage repression of protestors in Bahrain.(Which remains un reported in the western press and media). The Saudi role in the Syrian civil war was also on the agenda for discussion no doubt as was the bribery and corruption associated with the lucrative arms trade between the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia.
For as long as Charles Windsor and the rest of his family support and give comfort to the barbaric regime in Saudi Arabia and other countries with a similar record of repression and abuses of human rights, then so shall such regimes be given a charade of credibility.
The Saudi Royal family have been made welcome visitors at Buckingham Palace and Downing Street for many years and are presumably reciprocating the hospitality for the heir to the British throne.
The torture, repression and abuses of civil liberties, the  crack down on protests with the Kingdom and involvement elsewhere, the oppression of minorities and women and the state corruption are conveniently forgotten.
Charles probably enjoyed the sheep's eyes and the rest of the State Banquets.
