He also said that “I am unable to watch passively while certain policies are enacted in order to meet the fiscal self-imposed restraints that I believe are more and more perceived as distinctly political rather than in the national economic interest,”. In other words, Duncan-Smith has come to the view that austerity i s not an economic necessity. Austerity is a political choice. It is strange indeed that the man who has over the past eight years, imposed cuts of over £30 billion on welfare spending, condemning thousands of people in this country to hardship and misery and even driving some to suicide. ...

This afternoon the story appeared in the Guardian to the effect that "Burnham, Cooper and Kendall demand extra checks on voters" Rowena Mason, Political correspondent and her Guardian paymasters are determined to draw out this witch hunt to the very last minute. The michieveous interventions, even after the Stevenage "meeting" with Harriet Harman, seem to indicate that they at least have not given up hope of installing their prefered candidate as leader of the Labour party and will resort to any trick, distortion orsubterfuge to acheive that objective.
