United States foreign policy, is part of the problem, not the solution.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/putin-accuses-us-of-causing-global-instability-9816775.html    Putin says US 'throwing its might' is to blame for almost all the world's major conflicts President Vladimir Putin   Whether we like Putin or not, we cannot escape the reality that he is absolutely right. Viet Nam, Grenada, Panama, Chile, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Somalia, and numerous other places together with countless covert operations against democratic (and non democratic) governments and countries around the world provide compelling evidence that American foreign policy since 1945 is based upon a policy of intervention, which itself causes global instability. The "shoulder to shoulder, pro America, the United States can do no wrong", lobby will no doubt respond to the comments coming out of Sochi, with the usual hysterical anti Russian, but predominately anti Putin, rhetoric, as if shouting insults and personal abuse s...

The "Playground Bully" rounding up his "gang"

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/sep/01/nato-high-readiness-spearhead-force-counter-russian-threat Nato to create high-readiness force to counter Russian threat       US President Obama and NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen Complete lunacy from Anders Fogh Rasmussen, trotting out  words scripted in Washington under the guise of, "NATO says". The playground bully of Washington wearing its NATO cape,  wanders around dragooning other people into their "gang", to intimidate Russia to bow to Uncle Sam and succumb to the Great American plan for the world. As many (but not all unfortunately) learned from their school days in the "quad", the way to deal with the bully is to look him firmly in the eye, deliver a swift size 10 or whatever between his thighs and cause his nose to bleed profusely with either fist or forehead. Should  Rasmussen, Obama or any other incumbent of the Whitehouse expect me to have any part, no matte...

The European Union, NATO and the unfolding conflict in Ukraine.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/ukraine-crisis-eu-summit-seeks-to-show-it-backs-kiev-9701806.html EU summit seeks to show it backs Kiev   Pro Russia militia in Ukraine Why is NATO with its mouthpiece Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the European Union, with as many mouth pieces as there are member states and not quite behind the scenes, the ringmaster United States, engineering a confrontation with Russia? Rasmussen bleats that it is unacceptable for "foreign" troops to be in another country's territory and yet fails (presumably) to see the irony with the comparison to Iraq or Afghanistan or Syria. E U Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, mumbles that, "it isn't too late for a political solution", presumably with the implied threat that E U troops would go trundling over the border grab Ukraine (Unlikely, just looked what happened the last time a European "leader" had the same idea). All the while in the background some...

Manufacture a "confrontation" to achieve the real objective.

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/aug/26/nato-east-european-bases-counter-russian-threat NATO plans east European bases to counter "Russian threat" NATO chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen   It has always been about creating NATO bases in Ukraine. The entire Kiev, Moscow confrontation has been engineered by "the west" (aka the United States and US dominated NATO), using the European Union links and ultimate membership dispute in justification. NATO The ousting an elected President (whether we like ,Viktor Yanukovych or not,), to install the pro western, pro European government of Petro Poroshenkoof is not an unusual occurrence or tactic in American politics. It is a foreign policy, still very much in use today, which has numerous files under the collective title of "Replacing a few enemies with a few friends". In the Ukraine, it is a not very subtle excuse being used as a front for basing American missiles and personnel along pra...

The changing borders in the Middle East.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/iraq-crisis-isiss-declaration-of-an-islamic-state-is-a-threat-to-the-entire-middle-east-claims-pm-nouri-almaliki-9580085.html   Isis's declaration of an Islamic state is a threat to the entire Middle East, claims PM Nouri al-Maliki   Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki   The ruling factions of existing Middle East countries, supported by the Americans and "the West", are struggling desperately to retain their position and influence in the region. Ironically, by supporting "moderate" factions in the civil war in Syria, against the regime of Bashar al_Assad in the hope of installing a more pro western administration in Damascus, the efforts of Washington and London, are in fact assisting the Isis/Sunni campaign in Iraq, against Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki and his ruling clique of Shia dominated government. The sending of hundreds of American "advisers" can only delay the inevitable...

The slippery slope to full scale intervention.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/iraq-crisis-us-urgently-deploys-hundreds-of-armed-troops-9542131.html US urgently deploys hundreds of armed troops    Secretary John Kerry.   The U.S. is urgently deploying several hundred armed troops in and around Iraq and considering sending an additional contingent of special forces soldiers as Baghdad struggles to repel a rampant insurgency. Tulsa World. America sends hundreds of troops into Iraq to protect the US embassy and to "safeguard American personnel and other interests in Baghdad". This deployment, not withstanding Whitehouse assertions to the contrary , may be seen as a precursor to an even greater involvement of American military personnel in defiance of domestic public opinion. It is not without precedent in American military history, as US involvement in Viet Nam began with the deployment of "military advisers" to prop up a failing administration in Saigon, leading to a f...

Tony Blair: Present Iraq crisis is due to our failure to intervene in Syria, not the 2003 invasion.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/it-would-be-worse-if-we-hadnt-invaded-iraq-claims-tony-blair-9537857.html     'It would be worse if we hadn't invaded Iraq,' claims Tony Blair   In a 3,000-word essay, Mr Blair rejects that he was to blame         Tony Blair's long, and long winded, diatribe (essay) seeking to absolve himself from any blame for the invasion of Iraq and its consequences, is a distortion which takes one event in isolation, and completely ignores the historical route to the events of 2003.     Iraq war 2003     Blair, either by accident or more probably design, glosses over the history, and refuses to acknowledge that the war, started by himself and Bush on the basis of lies and false information, was in fact only part of a far more complex situation, going back for almost 100 years and that the Blair/Bush war is only one of the many "chickens" now coming ...

The old partition of the Middle East is dead

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/jun/13/crisis-in-iraq-kurds-baghdad         Fighters of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) Arab revolt 1916                                             On the 17th March 2013, I wrote a piece in this Blog (http://new-agenda2012.blogspot.co.uk/2013/03/huffington-post-generates-debate.html, part of the text is reproduced below), commenting on the artificial creation of "countries" in the Middle East by the "Sykes-Picot Agreement" following the end of the First World War.  In view of the present situation in Iraq and Syria, and the recent advances of the Fighters of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), it seems appropriate to remind ourselves of the background to the current situation, as the history of the region is ...
