In the wake of President Mahmoud Abbas address to UN, a voice of reality from amongst the vitriolic responses.

http://www.haaretz.com/opinion/.premium-1.617951#  Israel’s criticism of Abbas’ speech is the rhetoric of despair Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas addresses UN General Assembly   One Israeli newspaper at least is prepared to think the unthinkable and speak the unspeakable truth, that  Israel and the Israeli leadership are wrong. "The government is now grasping at Abbas’ statements as if it were grasping at a life raft. But leaning on Abbas’ speech reflects nothing but fear and weak leadership. Israel has neither an answer nor a strategy for the diplomatic elements in Abbas’ address." Haaretz: Sunday, September 28, 2014 Tishrei 4, 5775 The longer that Israel resists the inevitable establishment of a Palestinian State, based on the 1967 borders, then the more they will become isolated and marginalised around the world.

Are we really back to where we started?

http://www.aljazeera.com/news/middleeast/2014/08/clone.of.life-returns-gaza-as-truce-holds-20148271.html   Life returns to Gaza as truce holds but Netanyahu faces criticism in Israel over the offensive.   Palestinians celebrate the beginning of the truce in Gaza City After 50 days of intense bombardment by Israeli military forces and fierce resistance from the Palestinian factions within Gaza, the ceasefire brokered by the Egyptians came into effect at 17:00 yesterday (26th August). Not withstanding what Mark Regev, the Israeli mouthpiece for Benjamin Netanyahu, may say to try to convince you otherwise, the ceasefire terms agreed to in Cairo are not the same as those that were "on the table", 3 weeks ago. By now of course, we are only too well aware of how Mark Regev, Peter Lerner,  Ron Prosor and other Israeli spokespersons are, without even batting an eyelid, able to turn fantasy and wishful thinking into their presentation of "fact and truth"....

Not quite all of the News.

When the "News" is neither accurate or comprehensive.   At 10pm last night, we had stories covering Nouri al-Maliki, Ferguson Missouri, mount Sinjar, Robin Williams, GCE A levels, Sir Cliff Richard, David Cameron and arming the Kurds, Russia and the Ukraine, Syria, European athletics, Ebola, Eurozone, Tony Pulis (I did not know who he is either. It seems that he is/was the manager of Crystal Palace), and a number of other, in some cases even less significant stories than those listed, purporting to be "The News". BBC Television News channel, Sky News, The News from ITN and even Aljazeera, all carrying stories and reports of events at home and from around the world. However, what was conspicuous by its absence on all news channels, certainly the ones which I saw at least, was any report on the current situation in Gaza. Not a mention or even a word. It was as if Gaza had completely ceased to exist and had disappeared into the sea. Aljazeera did not mak...

Even "Readers comments" are severely restricted in the national media.

The government propaganda officers (P O's) are even targeting "readers comments". It is incredible although not surprising, the way comment from readers is being restricted in the national press, in respect of the current conflict in Gaza. All too frequently, the news paper publishes a story but provides no facility for the reader to offer any comment. Where such a facility is provided, it is clear that the "Comments for this story are now closed" has been applied soon after publication of the article. It is as if the media are acting under instructions to restrict comment or criticism on the matter. Perhaps the government propaganda officers (P O's) who sit permanently on the editorial boards of our newspapers, have something to hide or are trying to prevent the growing tide of criticism being spread to an even wider audience.

The Press Conference and the true intentions of Israel

Benjamin Netanyahu reveals his intentions Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, finally threw off the mask to reveal his and his governments true intentions in respect of the current aggression into Gaza. At a press conference held shortly after the fragile ceasefire which had been in place for less than 24 hours broke down with Israeli missiles hitting the Beach refugee camp, killing many civilians including 10 children, Netanyahu told the world how Israel should "prepare for a protracted campaign" in Gaza and how "any solution to the crisis would require the demilitarisation of the Palestinian territory" .Not too long ago, and now constantly repeated (and misquoted) by Israeli spokesmen, Iran allegedly made a threat to "drive the Israeli's into the sea".This remark has been turned into grim but ironic reality, by Netanyahu  and the IDF but the victims are not to be the Israel...

A very one sided "truce".

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/israelgaza-conflict-what-now-for-gaza-israel-nears-moment-of-truth-in-war-with-hamas-9631788.html President Obama presses Netanyahu to call ‘immediate and unconditional’ Gaza ceasefire    Netanyahu and Obama The United Nations Security Council unanimously passes a statement calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire on humanitarian grounds, in Gaza. In the meantime President Obama has a long telephone conversation with Benjamin Netanyahu Prime Minister of Israel, pressing Netanyahu to call an immediate and unconditional ceasefire. With this flurry of diplomatic activity at the United Nations, the two sides in Gaza, observe a fragile ceasefire. Paradoxically even during the supposed truce, Israel continues with its programme of destruction of Palestinian tunnels and other infrastructure. It is indeed a strange phenomenon that's the invading forces, the aggressor in fact, continues with his pro...

Selective reporting cannot disguise the fact.

Just because the story is not reported, it does not mean that the events did not happen.   A  child, wounded in a strike on a U.N. school in Beit Hanoun    The government propaganda officers (P O's) who sit permanently on the editorial boards of our newspapers, were very busy yesterday pushing the official line, or perhaps the lack of it, to ensure that today’s editions contain predominately “safe” stories. A glance across the front pages of our national daily's reveal the extent to which the sanitisation of news has reached new levels of “subtlety” which the P O's hope and believe will satisfy the readers and divert their attention, at least for a short period. For example, the Daily Mirror leads with a “story” about Vladimir Putin's girlfriend, The Sun has more about Peaches Geldorf, the Star continues its obsession with “Big Brother”, in the Express the front page is again dominated by the British weather, while the Times and the Telegra...

Operation "Protective Edge". July 2014.

"To sin by silence when we should protest makes cowards out of men"

A ceasfire but not at any price.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/israelgaza-conflict-israeli-bombardment-continues-with-destruction-of-five-mosques-as-international-pressure-for-ceasefire-grows-9620194.html   Israeli bombardment continues with destruction of five mosques as international pressure for ceasefire grows.   Smoke rises from  Shejaiya during an Israeli military operation in  of Gaza            As the Israeli bombardment of Gaza moves into its third week, the leaders of the Western world scurry off to Cairo, Qatar, Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, in an attempt to bring about a ceasefire between the Palestinians in Gaza and the invading Israeli forces. This is against a background of the most vicious, indiscriminate and constant bombardment and killing of civilians in the area, currently in excess of 500 killed and more than 100 of those children. I have never witnessed, in all the history of Israeli incursions into Gaza, such...
