Move the goalpost and the problem is solved

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/800000-people-lifted-out-offuel-poverty--by-redefining-it-8976232.html   800,000 people ‘lifted’ out of fuel poverty – by redefining it The UK is second only to Estonia among European countries for the number of people struggling to pay their energy bills When the statistics show a figure that is not acceptable, or embarrassing, governments (of all political positions) have a very simple solution. The answer to the problem is "move the goal posts" and in this way, the offending information can be manipulated to reflect the picture as the incumbent government would prefer it to be rather than what it actually is. The natural extension of this, is that when your new calculation becomes problematic, it is always possible to revert to the previous calculation and choose whichever figure is the most acceptable. The classic example of this subterfuge is the way in which RPI and CPI are interchangeable for governm...

The shame of 21st Century Britain.

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/11/03/80000-children-to-spend-c_n_4208853.html?1383550880&utm_hp_ref=uk  More than 80,000 children in the UK will spend this Christmas homeless 21st Century Britain   80,000 children on the streets, one million households using "Pay day loan" sharks, 750,000 people reliant on Foodbanks. All just part of the misery that is Great Britain in the winter of 2013. Add to this the households facing fuel poverty due to the excesses of the energy companies or the households where overcrowding is a major problem due to the failure of governments to address the housing crisis. The neglect of successive governments over many years compounded now by the ConDem coalition with their drive for "austerity", has created this situation and we should all feel shame for allowing it to happen. In the first quarter of the 21st Century, Britain is becoming a nation where self interest and indifference in many parts of society, not ...

"Energy is too cheap" says Deputy Rob Duhamel Jersey's environment minister.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-jersey-20206389 Deputy Rob Duhamel said: "A lot of people squander electricity and other fuel sources - energy is probably too cheap for people who waste a lot." Fuel poverty affects vulnerable households  I note that Deputy Rob Duhamel Jersey's environment minister, thinks that the cost of energy in Jersey is  "too cheap for people who waste a lot." The natural progression to this argument is to raise the price until such time as it is not too cheap to waste. Unfortunately, the warped economic  logic emanating no doubt directly from the energy companies, is that it takes no recognition of those who do not waste energy because they take all the "energy saving measures" they can, but are still unable to afford even the current energy price levels. The solution to this problem is not the "easy option" of never ending price hikes as this only results in more and more "fuel povert...
