MP's are "Paragons of virtue"? Colonel Bob Stewart has completely lost the plot.

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2014/04/13/british-mps-tory-colonel-bob-stewart_n_5142093.html?utm_hp_ref=uk  'British MPs Are Paragons Of Virtues,' Says Tory MP Colonel Bob Stewart Colonel Bob Stewart A worthless comparison by Colonel Bob Stewart. It is always easy to compare our situation with other countries and it is as hollow then as it is now coming from Stewart. Salaries and wages, working conditions, holidays, housing etc have at some time or another, been compared to those abroad, either favorably or unfavorably, depending on the point that the person or organisation drawing the comparison was seeking to make. The fact remains that British MP's are not,  "paragons of virtue". The House of Commons is, with a few notable exceptions, populated with people more concerned with their own ego's and personal ambitions, shameless and self serving men (and women) more interested in their positions, salaries and expense accounts and othe...

Michael Fabricant: A victim of a fit of pique.

http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2014/apr/09/tory-vice-chair-fabricant-sacked Tory vice-chair Fabricant sacked in 'knee-jerk decision' Michael Fabricant: M P for Lichfield   Michael Fabricant may be a bit of a buffoon, pompous and a bit "off the wall", but he was already that when he was first appointed to the post of Conservative vice-chairman. The difference today is that Cameron and much of his party management. are smarting from having to remove the odious Miller from her post as Culture secretary, (never mind what Miller, Cameron and the others may put out for public consumption, the woman was sacked), and are lashing out in a fit of pique. It just so happens that Fabricant "got in the way" and refused to resign after his tweet "About time too". Actually, she should have "resigned" days before and certainly on the same day as she made the "apology" to the House of Commons. Cameron, Osborne and others def...

Maria Miller: Defiance and indignation on being ordered to say sorry.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/maria-miller-expenses-culture-secretary-in-hot-water-as-shes-ordered-to-repay-5800-expenses-claim-9235638.html Culture Secretary in hot water as she's ordered to repay £5,800 claim Maria Miller: Commons statement.    This woman was originally ordered, by the "independent" Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, to pay back a total sum of £45,000.The Parliamentary Commissioner, can of course be over ruled by MP's should they consider the Commissioners findings or decisions to be in error or too harsh or as in this case, likely to be "difficult" for them  personally, the next time that they themselves are again caught with their own fingers in the till . Consequently, ranks are closed as some members, under the guise of  the all party "Standards Committee" rush to the defence of Miller and reduce her "pay back punishment" from the recommended £45,000,to a mere £5,800. This fig...

A side show of a side show,

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/02/05/gay-marriage-mps-vote-in-favour_n_2621431.html?1360091772&utm_hp_ref=uk MPs Vote In Favour Of Gay Marriage, As Debate Exposes Deep Tory Divisions    The prime minister, who did not attend the debate despite being the driving force behind the Bill,      said in a statement that allowing gay people to marry would "make our society stronger".   This "story" has dominated the news media and television for weeks if not months. From all the available evidence it would appear that the vast majority of the gay and lesbian community have no great support for these proposals, and are content with the present civil partnership measures, and the vast majority of heterosexuals have the same view. It seems that the only passionate interest in "Gay Marriage" lies in the Chambers and corridors of the Houses of Parliament and in the councils of the Church. Now that this "debate" seems to...

36 Remploy factories to close

Factory-jobs-for-disabled-lost-as-grants-are-ended.html The day after the euphoria of 2000 jobs being created at Nissan comes the news that GM plan to close their Ellesmere Port plant in 2014 with a threat to 2800 jobs and now 36 Remploy factories offering work for disabled people are to close, with the loss of more than 1,700 jobs. No matter what feeble mealy mouthed excuses the Minister for disabled people, Maria Miller, may trot out after being forced to make an emergency statement to the House of Commons, the fact remains that this is nothing more than another sacrificial lamb on the alter of Government Expenditure Cuts in order to "save" money, no matter what the real cost happens to be in terms of finance or human hardship. Justifying this latest blow to the people of this country as "diverting funding away from the loss-making business into job creation schemes for disabled people in the mainstream workplace". Is crass and patronising. In a time of high u...
