The House of Lords amendments to Brexit Bill must be supported in the Commons.

http://www.standard.co.uk/news/politics/brexit-bill-david-davis-tells-mps-to-reject-house-of-lords-changes-to-eu-exit-laws-a3487506.html David Davis tells MPs to reject House of Lords' changes to EU exit laws The Parliamentary Labour Party and the Labour party in the country must support the Lords amendments. The House of Lords amendment, guaranteeing the rights of EU citizens in the UK as part of Brexit Bill, quite rightly and properly, seeks to give Europeans who in many cases have been living and working in the United Kingdom for some years, contributing to the British economy, paying taxes and filling important and useful roles in society, a guarantee of their rights following Brexit. For Theresa May (and others) to give some vague assurances that these rights will be incorporated into the Brexit negotiations after Article 50 has been triggered, is simply not credible as we have heard such promises on many matters in the past, all of which have been discar...

Speculation on an early General Election grows.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-39188042 Prime Minister Theresa May should call an early general election, former Tory leader Lord Hague has urged. When politicians from the government and parts of the media begin speculating and calling for an early election, history shows us that the speculation grows, spreads and quickly becomes irresistible. The pressure and temptation on Theresa May to go to the country this year will soon become compelling. We in the Labour party, must be prepared to fight a short General election campaign within months. The polls suggest that we have lost lost some support amongst the electorate which necessitates that we must concentrate on those issues which effect people in their everyday lives and their aspirations for the future, rather than the divisive and destructive attacks and deriding of our own leadership. The NHS, working peoples rights, housing, energy and transport are issues which we must bring to the front o...

The law has no place in industrial relations.

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2017/feb/28/prison-officers-england-and-wales-industrial-action Justice secretary wins injunction to stop prison officers' industrial action A major criticism that many have against previous Labour governments, is the complete failure to address injustices to working people in this country brought about by the grossly unfair anti Trade Union legislation introduced by Conservative governments during the 1980's and 1990's. Additional restrictions introduced by the Labour governments of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, have only compounded an already unjust assortment of legislation, which effectively removes or severely restricts the ability of working people to seek improvements to pay, working conditions or safety for users. These restrictions are reminiscent of the Combination Acts of 1799 and 1800 which criminalised working people from banding together, outlawed Trade Union and collective bargaining and proscribed the right...

A rejection of the democratic process

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/feb/16/tony-blair-remainers-rise-up-brexit Tony Blair calls on remainers to 'rise up in defence of our beliefs'. Tony Blair (and who could forget him as he pushes himself into the media almost every week), entered the "Brexit" controversy this week, suggesting that those people (the majority) who voted to leave the EU did not really unders tand what they were voting for, and called for "millions to rise up against Brexit" adding " we have to build a movement which stretches across party lines, and devise new ways of communication.” He just fell short of demanding another referendum (but only just) as he patronised those who for many different reasons, had voted to leave the EU. His intervention on this issue, proved yet again that Blair is interested only in self and the advancement of his long held ambition to be "President of the United States of Europe". He must have been very shocked ...

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/dec/21/corbyn-critic-jamie-reed-quits-labour-mp-byelection-copeland Corbyn critic quits as Labour MP, triggering tight by election race Jamie Reed A labour MP leaves the party to take up a lucrative position as Head of Development and Community Relations with Sellafield Ltd, a private limited company owned by HM Government, a position which pays, "not that much more than" his £74,962 MP’s salary. A Labour MP who publicly resigned from the shadow cabinet in June This is the same Labour MP who, when calling for Jeremy Corbyn's resignation said, “In the short time you have been Leader, along with the shadow Chancellor, yo u have sought to inject an unprecedented poison into our party,” adding, “You have actively worked to divide Labour MPs from the Labour Party membership…you have repeatedly incited you supporters on social media to confront Labour MPs; without doubt you are not fit to lead our great party.”  Jamie Reed, ...

Gerald Coyne accuses the Unite general secretary of meddling too much in Westminster politics,

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/dec/17/unite-leader-under-attack-puppet-master-jeremy-corbyn Unite leadership challenger Gerard Coyne says Len McCluskey has put Labour infighting above members’ needs Gerald Coyne Len McCluskey Gerald Coyne, another of the Quasi intellectuals so much in favour with the Guardian and other "centrist" media who will grasp at any opportunity, now matter how small or how unclear such opportunity may be, in their incessant campaign to remove Jeremy Corbyn from the leadership of the Labour party. In his bid to replace Len McCluskey as General Secretary of "Unite", Coyne accuses the Unite general secretary of meddling too much in Westminster politics , a comment which in itself is reason enough for members to re elect McCluskey for another term. Had the TUC generally and other specific Trade Union leaders in particular , spent more time over the last 18 months "meddl...

The Humanitarian Crisis grows more severe each day.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/yemen-war-starvation-saudi-arabia-crisis-appeal-houthi-rebels-conflict-a7470846.html More than seven million people in Yemen do not know where their next meal will come from. Udai Faisal, an infant suffering from acute malnutrition E very one of the 102 Labour MP's who abstained on the Commons motion of 26th October last, calling on the Government to "suspend its support for the Saudi Arabia-led coalition forces in Yemen until it has been determined whether they have been responsible for violations of international humanitarian law in the conflict in Yemen"; should today read this article and study the photographs. They shoul d then ask themselves the question, "Is undermining and seeking to remove Jeremy Corbyn as leader of the Labour party, infinitely more important than attempting to stop the destruction and humanitarian suffering being inflicted every day by the forces of Saudi A...

More than 350 workers are being sacked because they would not agree to a new contract that meant less pay.

http://www.dorsetecho.co.uk/news/14958152.Care_workers_sacked_because_they_won_t_agree_to_pay_cut_in_council_company_s__Project_Fear___union_claims/ Care workers sacked because they won't agree to pay cut in council company's 'Project Fear'  Council care staff face sack - because they won't sign a contract for less pay  How times have changed and not for the better. Some years ago, the thought of an employer being able to sack workers and then in the next second, re employing them on reduced pay and worse conditions, would have been dismissed as a fantasy existing only in the darkest recesses in the mind of the most unscrupulous employer, or in the dream world of some extreme right wing conservative politicians and their supporters, who would also welcome a return to sending children up into chimneys. Now, since the days of Thatcher and her compulsion to drive working people into submission and be thankful that they actually have a job, with he...

Euphoric nonsense on the front pages of our national press.

http://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/741007/Article-50-MPs-approve-Government-amendment-begin-EU-divorce-end-March A very shabby climb down to avoid a telling defeat. It is difficult this morning to resist being overwhelmed and taken it by the euphoric nonsense spewing forth in the headlines on the front pages of certain of our national newspapers, who have have historically been less than enthusiastic on the question of the United Kingdom's membership of the European Union. The Mail, the Telegraph, the Express and the rest of the usual suspects scream out at us with such hysterical absurdities as, "Victory for PM. Commons back May on Brexit", or "Hooray. MP's say Yes to EU exit" or "MP's hand May a blank cheque for Brexit" and perhaps the most preposterous headline of them all screeching, "BREXIT VICTORY: Remoaner plot CRUSHED as MPs vote to APPROVE triggering of Article 50". The standards of British newspaper reportin...

Subjective opinion from Professor O'Hara and the NewStatesman still gets it wrong

http://www.newstatesman.com/politics/staggers/2016/11/moment-when-labours-poll-rating-gets-lot-lot-worse This is the moment when Labour's poll rating gets a lot, lot worse Rambling and contrived, the NewStatesman publishes an article which seems to be no more than speculative opinion on what their editorial "team" would prefer as the outcome of the next general election. Describing itself as occupying " a left-of-centre political position" the NewStatesman can hardly be described as being in the Jeremy Corbyn camp. In fact with their articles going back over the months since Corbyn was elected as Labour party leader, the general tone and direction of the NewStatesman, can at best be described as more in tune with "Labour First" and that organisations determination to undermine the current leadership and restore the more autocratic Labour Party of the mid-1990s and early 2010s. Professor Glen O'Hara. NewStatesman   Until ye...

"You are the party, the government of Food-banks".

Ken Loach and Kwasi Kwarteng on Channel  4 News https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-V7Iaycp5IU There are many patronising, uncaring and ignorant Tories filling the conservative benches in the Commons and many more to be found in their constituency clubs and tea rooms around the country. Kwasi Kwarteng is just one. The refusal to accept the reality of "Food-bank Britain", he dismisses with the comment, "I think there is some hardship" followed by "Ken is just telling a story" and then draws a comparison with other writers who have commented on social injustices for ma ny years. Patronising, uncaring and ignorant Kwarteng resorts to the now well worn distortion that the conservatives have won a mandate from the British people in an election where the increasing use of Food-banks (by people driven to desperation by welfare cuts and sanctions incidentally) was a main issue in the Labour party campaign, and Labour lost that argument. Th...

1,640,000 people are going hungry because they cannot afford to "heat and eat"

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/four-10-social-housing-tenants-9107639 Four in 10 social housing tenants forced to skip meals because they can't afford to eat Four in 10 social housing tenants forced to skip meals The 21st Century, in the United Kingdom. Today in Theresa May's conservative controlled Great Britain, four in 10 social housing tenants are forced to skip meals because they can't afford to eat. The most recent figures reveal that around 4.1 million people live in "social housing" in this country, which means that more than 1,640,000 people men, women and children are going hungry because they cannot afford to "heat and eat" especially during the winter months, due to lack of finance. This situation has resulted in the huge rise in the number of people becoming reliant on Food-banks and other charities a number of people which now exceeds one million. This situation is particularly difficult for those in our society w...
