The perks of a rotten structure

http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2014/dec/07/champagne-house-of-lords-reform-taxpayer Champagne wars in the Lords as peers say no to a cheaper vintage Since 2010, the Lords has bought in 17,000 bottles of champagne   This story adds to the list of things wrong with the people who populate the corridors of the Palace of Westminster. Commons and Lords, filled with people who care only for themselves and retaining their position of privilege in society. Expenses, extortionate salary increases, perks of subsidised food and alcohol and all the other trimmings of Parliamentary life are indicative of a system which is corrupt and which encourages greed and selfishness amongst those who are part of and profit from it. The phrase "Parliamentary privilege" takes on a whole new meaning when abuses and self indulgences such as this are exposed.  There is a compelling argument from dissolving the whole rotten structure and starting again from scratch.

Confusion at LibDem offices?

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2012/11/27/sir-cyril-smith-abuse_n_2198713.html?ncid=GEP  Overwhelming evidence that Smith abused boys. The Lib Dem MP was accused of inappropriate conduct with young boys   There is a quotation from a Liberal democrat spokesman shown in this Huffington post story, which I must admit causes me some confusion. The comment is,  "The Liberal Democrats are not aware of any allegations being made to the party, and have never been involved in any investigations." Now the reason for my confusion arises from David Steel's Press Office being quoted as saying on the 22nd April 1979 that "....all he seems to have done is spanked a few bare bottoms".  The quote is taken from "Anorak" and indicates to me, that David Steel's press office were aware back in 1979 that there were some questions being asked about Smith's behavior even then. Perhaps someone can clarify or explain the apparent confusion..

Why did CPS not prosecute Cyril Smith?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2012/nov/27/cyril-smith-abused-boys-police Police find 'overwhelming evidence' former Rochdale MP attacked vulnerable boys. CPS criticises 1970s decision not to prosecute Cyril Smith , the former Liberal Democrat MP for Rochdale The question is "Why did the CPS not bring charges against this odious individual?" As in the case of Savile and as in Jersey with the Historic Child abuse inquiry, these perverts had irresistible influence and control within the "establishment" and the investigating bodies and thus were able to evade prosecution for decades. There are compelling arguments to support the view that the conspiracy of silence amongst those who were part of the abuse and those who, even today, perpetuate the cover up, demands the deepest investigation and exposure. For far too long, the victims of this evil abuse have been ignored, threatened, ridiculed and smeared by the investigating authorities who ar...

Cyril Smith named in Commons debate.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2012/nov/13/cyril-smith-accused-abusing-boys MP Simon Danczuk claimed authorities were aware of allegations that the Lib Dem MP targeted children, but that a report into the accusations vanished. Former Liberal Democrat MP Sir Cyril Smith Cambridge House hostel for working boys  Again, there were rumors surrounding Cyril Smith many years ago. It seems that the conspiracy of cover up and silence is unraveling fast. There must be many very worried individuals who are now fearing the knock on their door. About time too.

Parliamentary privlege abused to protect criminal acts.

http://news.sky.com/story/1006399/expenses-macshane-letters-protected-by-rules Letters in which a former Labour minister admitted expenses abuses cannot be used to prosecute him because they are protected by parliamentary privilege, an official has said. Denis MacShane submitted 19 invoices for false expenses This parasite has stolen money from the British Taxpayer. He escapes prosecution because evidence is protected by "parliamentary privilege" It should not be that parliamentary privilege can protect acts of criminality by members of parliament .
