Another price hike from a privatised foreign owned energy supplier

https://www.theguardian.com/business/2017/feb/03/npower-electricity-gas-price-rises-dual-fuel-bills#comment-92525414 Npower is to increase its electricity and gas prices for 1.4 million customers One of the greatest lies ever foisted upon the British people was that repeated almost daily during the 1980's by the Thatcher government. The deception, which gave proof to the theory that if you tell a big enough lie and repeat it often, people will accept it as truth. The great falsehood filling the media, being repeated at every opportunity by conservative politicians and being driven by those with their own, not very well hidden agendas, met the conditions for forceful propaganda, being short and easily remembered. "Privatisation introduces competition, drives down costs and improves services". The history of privatised industries since 1980 is littered with examples evidencing that far from being the great blessing for the consumers as promised by the hyp...

Welcome to Argos. Update on the update.

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/StaticDisplay/includeName/AboutArgos.htm#corp   Argos     Success! Following the post of yesterday, there was an exchange of comments with “Argos Helpers”, which, initially, caused some concern. Hi John, I am very sorry for the problems that you have experienced with your order. I have just spoken with the courier and your cooker is out for delivery today and the driver will contact you before he delivers. Charlotte John Yates. We are just leaving for a hospital appointment. He can deliver and install tomorrow or late this afternoon. (after 3:00pm). Please confirm Argos. Your delivery is the fourth drop of the day so hopefully this may be after 3pm but Argos. I can not guarantee this. If you are not available for delivery today then the courier will call you to re book the delivery. Charlotte Just as I was muttering “Oh dear. Another day passes without our delivery. Oh dear”, or words to that effect, our...

Welcome to Argos, part of Home Retail Group-Update.

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/StaticDisplay/includeName/AboutArgos.htm#corp Argos. Following the publication of details covering the first part this continuing saga,(this Blog 5th July), it seems that we are no further forward than we were last Friday. I had an exchange of Twitter messages on Friday afternoon, with “Argos Helpers” who listened to my explanation of events, offered much (and I am sure sincere) sympathy with my frustration and assured me that their delivery and installation contractor would telephone on Monday to make the necessary arrangements.(Readers may recall the exchange of telephone calls between me and Argos customer services on 4th July) Yesterday, Monday 7th July, we eagerly awaited a call from the delivery people with news of our cooker and when we might be able to see physical evidence of its existence. At 5:00 pm, I finally lost patience and logged on to send another request to “Argos Helpers”. The Twitter exchange started with my “Hi Tin...

Welcome to Argos, part of Home Retail Group

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/StaticDisplay/includeName/AboutArgos.htm#corp   Argos Have you ever tried to buy something online from Argos using their web page? On the 19th June, I placed an order on line, for an electric cooker, to include delivery, recycling our existing cooker and installation of the new appliance. Argos responded with an e-mail within a few minutes, acknowledging receipt of the order and confirming receipt of payment. Their e-mail also stated that they would contact us by Thursday 3 July 2014 to arrange a convenient date and time for delivery and installation. Some days later, they confirmed that our cooker would be delivered to their delivery/installation sub contractor on the 24th June, which was later confirmed. During a call earlier this week, just to check on any progress, I was advised that the delivery/installation people would ring me no later than Thursday or Friday of this week to arrange a date. Yesterday, Friday 4t...

Environment Agency admits that the Selection of the Sellafield Nuclear waste dump site was a "mistake".

http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2014/apr/20/choice-cumbria-nuclear-dump-mistake-environment-agency  One million cubic meters of waste near Sellafield are housed at a site that was a mistake Sellafield nuclear facility I have never been a supporter of the use of nuclear as an option for producing energy. Amongst the reasons for my opposition to nuclear generated power, is a very simple question to which the pro nuclear lobby have never been able to provide an acceptable answer. The question is and will always be, "What do you do with the waste?"  The responses trotted out over the years, range between the bizarre and ludicrous (put it in a rocket and fire it into the sun or fill containers with it and dump it in the oceans, amongst the more perverse examples) to the now accepted international practices of land fill and dumping within the existing environment.  The usual criticisms of these suggestions I have documented elsewhere over the year...

The great privatised industry racket.

Arrogance and greed of the privatised energy companies I have just had another telephone conversation with EDF, (our supplier of electricity, who who will soon be our FORMER supplier.). After the usual 20 minutes of brain-dead “music”, interrupted at various times by a monotone voice repeating a selection of options, I was eventually connected to a human. The background to this latest “frank exchange of views” revolves around the arrogance and greed of the privatised energy companies and their treatment of their victims otherwise known as customers. In early June, we received a demand for an increase in our direct debit payment from £75.00 per month to £83.00, following their “review” of our energy consumption. This arbitrary figure was arrived at not withstanding a £400.00 credit from the previous bill and a £70.00 credit on the current bill. This request prompted a phone call to EDF and after the 20minute “music break” someone at ...

EDF to pay £50 to some households conned in cold-call scandal

Energy-giant-EDF-admits-doorstep-selling-hit-record-4-5m-penalty.html This could only happen in "Rip Off" Britain. With stunning arrogance, a foreign owned privatised company, raking in millions of £'s in profits condescends to pay £50 to some of its customers as "compensation". Some, mind you, not all. A patronising insult to those who receive this "hand out" as well as those who do not. Moreover, who does Ofgem and Energy Secretary Ed Davey think will ultimately pay for this compensation? As usual, there will be an element of recovery of this cost in the next round of price increases and the consumer will pay the price. No matter what lip service Ofgem and the Government may give to beefing up the regulatory powers, the fact remains that this, and the other power suppliers are private companies and are second only to the Banks in the way in which their customers are treated in their greed driven quest for bigger and bigger profits.
