It is a sad reflection on our society that, in the 21st Century in the United Kingdom, there is a necessity for places like this and for Food-banks. We should all feel a sense of shame that we have allowed successive governments to create the environment where the only rapidly growing industries are those charities providing food welfare and even energy welfare in some places, to feed and shelter almost 1 million families in this country today.

  This thought should be remembered by all those, who demonise, demean, mock, patronise or otherwise insult the sick,the disabled, the unemployed, the benefit claimants, those reliant on Foodbanks and other charities, the poor and the homeless and all those other sections of our society who are vulnerable and least able to defend themselves.

It may well be that  these investments "were made based on legal guidelines which state they must yield the best possible financial return.", but it seems tasteless to have companies benefiting from problems which, in many cases they themselves have created.
