Never mind about what's "bad for business". What about what's good for the people?

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/generalelection/general-election-2015-tesco-chairman-john-allan-slams-tory-plan-for-eu-referendum-10187367.html Tesco chairman John Allan slams Tory plan for an EU referendum       I am getting very fed up with "business leaders" or other pundits banging on about what may (or may not) be "Bad for businesses" in a referendum on our membership of the European Union and any subsequent decision about leaving, if that is what the outcome might produce. The only question which should be considered is what is good for the British people, be that remaining as a member or leaving. Politicians of all parties should get away from their obssesions with "business" and concentrate on the best interest people they were elected to represent.

Another lacklustre failure in the House of Lords?

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/generalelection/general-election-2015-lib-dem-plan-for-danny-alexander-to-keep-cabinet-post-if-they-forge-another-coalition-with-tories-10187353.html Danny Alexander could retain his Cabinet post in a second coalition government even if he loses his seat in the Scottish Highland Lord Danny of Aviemore? Danny Alexander, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, has demonstrated over the last 5 years, the performance of a man promoted far above the level of his abilities. He has also been less than impressive during interviews and his dealings with the media generally and until very recently been an obediant puppy for Osborne. According to the latest predictions, Danny Alexander will loose his seat on May 7th. Master and man Hopefully, only the Liberal Democrats can dream up a proposal to elevate this lacklustre failure to the House of Lords in order to retain his "abilities" in a futre coalition with ...

The expectation of success in defiance of the evidence

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/lib-dems-want-to-have-their-own-ministries-in-any-new-coalition-9845455.html   Lib Dems want to have their own ministries in any new Coalition Nick Clegg with Danny Alexander The Liberal Democrats seem to be very optimistic about actually having enough Westminster parliamentary seats to influence any discussions connected with coalitions after the next general election. Clearly a case of Danny Alexander and the other nonentities of the current LibDem part of this wretched coalition, preparing their positions for another sell out in a squalid bid to retain their ministerial cars, seats at the cabinet table (no matter who's cabinet it may be) and the other perks they have enjoyed over the last 5 years.

Danny Alexander flexes his muscles?.

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/10/27/energy-companies-tax-avoidance_n_4167501.html?utm_hp_ref=uk#comments  Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander has sent a tough message to energy firms over their tax avoidance, telling them: 'Stop it.'The energy firms must be shaking in their boots with fear of the mighty Alexander. Or perhaps more likely to be laughing into their Champagne cocktails at the thought of this inept Lib Dem Chief Secretary to the Treasury having the front to threaten them.   Like someone once said "Being threatened by Danny Alexander, is rather similar to being savaged by a dead sheep"

Are we out of the woods?

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/uk-narrowly-escapes-tripledip-recession-as-gdp-figures-show-03-growth-in-first-three-months-of-year-8587195.html UK narrowly escapes triple-dip recession as GDP figures show 0.3% growth in first three months of year. Something to smile about ? Joy, happiness, "green shoots" speculations and great euphoria pouring out of Sky News and BBC News 24 with nauseating predictability. When these manufactured figures are revised downwards (as they invariably are), there will not be much mention of the "triple dip recession", but by then the propaganda will have done its work and people will be content and relieved. Well, some will be.

A vaneer of enthusiasm.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2012/sep/22/coalition-cuts-nick-clegg-aide#post-area Liberal Democrats now the fourth party in British politics behind Ukip.   Never mind the TV images of a hundred or so  Liberal Democrat's chanting and waving banners purporting to demonstrate how much Nick is a loved and respected leader. The reality is that the Brighton Conference is full of many gloomy and worried people. Some are even prepared to admit that Clegg is a disaster and that forming a coalition with Cameron's Tories, was a grave mistake. The pity is that the price of allowing a few self centered hypocrites to gain a seat in the cabinet, is a price that is being paid by students, disabled, un employed, sick, and many of those still fortunate enough to have work. The deceipt and duplicity of Clegg and the rest, will not be quickly forgotten.

Parliamentary Inquiry is a cul de sac

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/were-powerless-to-get-truth-about-bankers-says-key-mp-7923528.html Politicians have been virtually "useless"  at getting to the truth behind the banking scandal, one of the MP's responsible for investigating the affair has admitted. This is the real reason why Cameron and Co are insisting on a Parliamentary Inquiry into the Banking Scandal rather than a judge led independent  inquiry. It is a not very subtle ploy to ensure that the witness are allowed to ramble on at length, saying nothing, being asked weak, inane questions and ensuring that no one is any the wiser at the end of their "evidence". The Parliamentary "Inquiry", will ensure that the banks and their crooked practices, together with those of their employees, and the subsequent conspiracy to cover up the whole rotten system are protected from the full glare of public exposure for as long as it takes to bury the matter under heaps o...
