Corbyn critic becomes Head of Development and Community Relations with Sellafield Ltd

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/dec/21/corbyn-critic-jamie-reed-quits-labour-mp-byelection-copeland Corbyn critic quits as Labour MP, triggering tight by election race Jamie Reed A labour MP leaves the party to take up a lucrative position as Head of Development and Community Relations with Sellafield Ltd, a private limited company owned by HM Government, a position which pays, "not that much more than" his £74,962 MP’s salary. A Labour MP who publicly resigned from the shadow cabinet in June This is the same Labour MP who, when calling for Jeremy Corbyn's resignation said, “In the short time you have been Leader, along with the shadow Chancellor, yo u have sought to inject an unprecedented poison into our party,” adding, “You have actively worked to divide Labour MPs from the Labour Party membership…you have repeatedly incited you supporters on social media to confront Labour MPs; without doubt you are not fit to lead our great party.”  Jamie Reed, ...

Is Chinese investment in the provision of our nuclear power really such a good idea?

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/comment/hinkley-point-reasons-not-to-be-suspicious-of-chinese-investment-a7166576.html Reasons not to be suspicious of Chinese nuclear investment A rather curious article from Ben Chu and the Independent, essentially telling the readers that there is nothing to worry about in having huge Chinese involvement in the generation of nuclear power in this country. Rather in the same way as George Osborne heaped praise and encouragement on Chinese investments in the United Kingdom up until a few weeks ago. Add caption I recently wrote that personally, I have never been enthusiastic about the Hinkley Point C development. The spiralling costs of the project, which are confidently expected to rise even more and the evidence that time-scale (which is already three years late) will extend well beyond the completion date of 2020, are in themselves sufficient grounds for abandoning the project now. Added to that, the unit p...

The Hinkley Point C project should be abandoned

https://www.theguardian.com/business/2016/jul/28/hinkley-point-c-to-go-ahead-after-edf-board-approves-project Hinkley Point C in fresh doubt after government delays approval New Hinkley Point nuclear plant in doubt The government has delayed a final decision on the Hinkley Point power station until "the autumn at least". The announcement was made on the day that the contract with the French firm EDF, was due to be signed. Why, after all the euphoria of the past few days, has the government had this sudden attack of cold feet? Perhaps the fact that similar projects is Europe are running £billions over budget and at least 5 years behind schedule, has something to do with it. The new power station at Hinkley point was always a bad idea, with cost, project delays and questionable technology being three of the many reasons for not going ahead with the construction. Hinkley point is a bad idea and should be abandoned as soon as possible.

Environment Agency admits that the Selection of the Sellafield Nuclear waste dump site was a "mistake".

http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2014/apr/20/choice-cumbria-nuclear-dump-mistake-environment-agency  One million cubic meters of waste near Sellafield are housed at a site that was a mistake Sellafield nuclear facility I have never been a supporter of the use of nuclear as an option for producing energy. Amongst the reasons for my opposition to nuclear generated power, is a very simple question to which the pro nuclear lobby have never been able to provide an acceptable answer. The question is and will always be, "What do you do with the waste?"  The responses trotted out over the years, range between the bizarre and ludicrous (put it in a rocket and fire it into the sun or fill containers with it and dump it in the oceans, amongst the more perverse examples) to the now accepted international practices of land fill and dumping within the existing environment.  The usual criticisms of these suggestions I have documented elsewhere over the year...

Nuclear power is not the solution.

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/10/21/nuclear-plant_n_4134359.html?utm_hp_ref=uk Ed Davey Announces New Nuclear Plant, Paid For By China, Built By France's EDF    Hinckley Point C.   Nuclear power is not the answer to global warming, no matter what the pro nuclear lobby may try to tell us. There are numerous issues and problems associated with generation of nuclear energy not least of which is clearly demonstrated by the Fukushima disaster. (In fact Fukushima is a greater threat to mankind than global warming) As most countries are currently closing their nuclear power plants and cancelling plans for more, it seems that only we are pressing ahead with ours.   One question among many, that the pro lobby have always avoided is "What are you going to do with the waste products many of which have a half life of 1000 years?"
