Hedging his bets to hang on to his job.

http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2014/feb/17/nick-clegg-hint-coalition-labour Clegg hints at possible coalition deal with Labour in 2015 The deputy prime minister and desperate to remain so   Clegg, the two faced hypocrite who again demonstrates, that he would say and do anything in order to hang on to his grubby little piece of power sitting at the cabinet table. The rewards of office are far more important to this wretched man than any thought of principle or credibility. He and those who follow him should be returned to where they belong, in the obscurity of opposition after the 2015 election.

LibDems will form a coalition with anybody...............................if they get the chance.

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/09/15/liberal-democrats-prefer-_n_3929034.html?utm_hp_ref=uk Liberal Democrats Prefer Coalition With Labour     Nick Clegg and however many of his Parliamentary mercenaries remain after the next general election, will form a coalition (provided of course that no one party secures an overall majority) with who ever offers the the best cabinet position s and or ministries and or chairmanships or any other of the perks with which they will be bribed.  A "joker" in the pack?   When it comes to manifesto commitments or political principle, Clegg and his band of hypocritical misfits will soon forget such small details in their grubby bids for "power". They will gladly grab their "thirty pieces of silver" as they leap into their ministerial limousines and purr off to their second homes.

Ashdown: Defending the indefensible.

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/09/13/paddy-ashdown-liberal-democrat-conference_n_3919984.html?utm_hp_ref=uk  Paddy Ashdown Tells Lib Dems It Would Be 'Crazy' To End Coalition Early Ashdown and Alan Beith contested the first leadership election in 1988, which Ashdown won by a substantial margin. Asked why he thought that Beith had been so heavily defeated and why he and many other Liberal Democrat MP's had voted for Ashdown, a leading Liberal MP at the time responded, "We can put sense into the man with charisma, but not charisma into the man with sense". It seems that after some years of sitting on the red leather benches in the House of Lords, the charisma has melted away, and whatever "sense" the Liberal Democrats may have managed to put into the former member for Yeovil, it has been replaced by a rather confused view of reality. His comments and observations in recent years, has culminated over the past two weeks with h...

"They are no better than Tarts".

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/03/09/lib-dem-conference-nick-clegg-secret-courts_n_2845254.html?utm_hp_ref=uk  Activists Show Fury At Nick Clegg Support For Secret Courts   Nick Clegg holds a Q&A session with party members    On the BBC News24 Programme "Hard Talk" yesterday (Saturday 9th March), Yasmin Alibhai-Brown admitted to voting for the Liberal Democrats at the last election, then went on to say that she had made the wrong decision and would "never vote for them again".  Yasmin Alibhai-Brown   The reason for this change of heart was, as she put it, because the Liberals had supported Tory legislation that reneged on every principle, promise, undertaking  and pledge that Liberal Democrats had made during the election campaign and generally betrayed people in this country. They had, again in her words, become  "Tarts" in the political arena. I have argued previously that the way in which Clegg and...

Another parasite in the high street?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2012/sep/24/vince-cable-small-business-bank1  £1bn to establish a British business bank The existing banking sector has had £ billions of taxpayers money poured into their vaults by government and by the Bank of England's policy of "Quantitative Easing" in order to persuade them to lend to small businesses,  "manufacturers, exporters and high-growth companies that power our economy" and "kick start" the economy. They have failed miserably in this objective. This new "Business bank", will essentially be no different from the existing high street parasites, creaming off the government funds and Bank of England cash injections, in order to improve balance sheets, show huge profits and pay obscene dividends to their share holders. Once again, the British people pay for the excesses of the banks and speculators.

Another Nick Clegg "pledge".

http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2012/sep/23/nick-clegg-chancellor-budget-cuts#post-area Nick Clegg pledges fresh battle with chancellor over budget cuts Another Nick Clegg "pledge". Is the "fresh battle" the one where there is a lot of grunting, hand wringing and gnashing of teeth which results in Clegg and his parliamentary herd shuffling off to go through the government lobby and vote with the Tories? No matter how many times you remake the movie, the end is always the same.

A vaneer of enthusiasm.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2012/sep/22/coalition-cuts-nick-clegg-aide#post-area Liberal Democrats now the fourth party in British politics behind Ukip.   Never mind the TV images of a hundred or so  Liberal Democrat's chanting and waving banners purporting to demonstrate how much Nick is a loved and respected leader. The reality is that the Brighton Conference is full of many gloomy and worried people. Some are even prepared to admit that Clegg is a disaster and that forming a coalition with Cameron's Tories, was a grave mistake. The pity is that the price of allowing a few self centered hypocrites to gain a seat in the cabinet, is a price that is being paid by students, disabled, un employed, sick, and many of those still fortunate enough to have work. The deceipt and duplicity of Clegg and the rest, will not be quickly forgotten.

The negative arguments produce negative results.

Blaming the previous Government for "leaving behind such a mess" has been around for as long as I can remember. It has always been one of those aspects of politics that I despise and have argued against over the years, because of all the negative point scoring practices, this is in my view the most crass and self defeating. This present government has turned negativity into an art form. Yesterday, I along with perhaps millions of others, watched the BBC News 24 election coverage presented by David Dimbleby (not one of my favourite presenters), and a varying panel of politicians, pundits and other "experts" offering opinion and analysis on the days events. In no particular order, Baroness Varsi, Danny Alexander, Paddy Ashdown, David Cameron, Nick Clegg, Sarah Teather and numerous others from the ConDem Coalition repeating parrot fashion various combinations of "the mess  the last Labour government left" or other such descriptions. In the case of Teather and...

Lords Reform?

clegg-warns-party-he-wont-go-to-war-over-lords-reform   Again, Clegg demonstrates that his commitment to principle is secondary to his determination to remain at the cabinet table. No matter what the issue may be, he will not put the coalition at risk, and there by his job (with its salary and perks) regardless of pledge or party. It is unfortunate that the lobby fodder of the Libdems Parliamentary party are of the same mind set and will whinge, moan, gnash teeth and then follow Clegg into the Government lobby. Collectively, this avaricious collection of non entities, reflect all that is rotten with this  Parliament and its cynical self interested bunch of members.

How Nick Clegg and Shirley Williams lost the great NHS debate

nick-clegg-shirley-williams-nhs-health-bill   It seems to me that the reason that the leadership lost the debate is that the delegates recognised that the NHS bill is a bad bill, badly drafted and conceived with the intention of privatising the NHS. The delegates of course are not alone. The vast majority of health professional bodies, the nurses, the Trade Unions, most sections of the media and perhaps most importantly of all, the general public are opposed to this vexatious piece of proposed legislation. Only Clegg and the perfidious Williams lean over backwards to placate the Tory dogma. Having lost this vote they will now presumably seek to force the parliamentary party, regardless of the opinion of conference, to join them in their duplicity to enable Clegg to retain his seat at the cabinet table

Liberal Democrats Spring Conference and health service reforms.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/liberaldemocrats/9135890/Liberal-Democrats-reject-vote-on-NHS-reforms.html Shirley Williams will probably remember the times when the Conference Arrangements Committee, aided and abetted by the Compositing Committee, sought to remove any possibility of embarrassment to the Party leadership or difficulties for the Parliamentary Party, due to Party Conference passing or even debating contentious matters. It was, in part, this gagging of dissension, coupled with a number of other Party procedures, which prompted a number of us to campaign and work for changes to the Party structure and mechanisms and bring about a more democratic party. It could have been this campaign that ultimately led to Shirley, now Baroness, Williams together with initially, three of her colleagues to reach the view that the party leadership would always have a monopoly of wisdom and party activists should follow, lemming like, in whatever direction the Parliamentary part...

Deputy PM hits out at millionaires shielded by 'army of accountants'

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2112924/Child-benefit-shake-undermine-marriage-lead-fraud.html Clegg is not only an unprincipled hypocrite, he is also an unprincipled Plagiarist. The ideas put forward by Mr Clegg, speaking on the opening day of his party’s spring conference, in respect of lawyers and accountants providing tax avoidance for the rich and powerful (tax evasion is of course illegal), are nothing more than repeating the arguments which I made in speeches back  in 1982!  In other words, this scandal was known then, and every Government since then has done absolutely NOTHING to rectify the practice in 30 years. There is no reason to suppose that anything will be done about by this Government either. This rhetoric is just another exercise in "spin" for the sake of popularity. Clegg and the rest will have forgotten the matter as soon as their Party Conference is over.
