The obscenity of Egyptian "Show Trials" continues.

http://www.theguardian.com/media/2016/jun/18/al-jazeera-employees-among-six-people-sentenced-to-death-in-egypt Al-Jazeera employees among six sentenced to death in Egypt   The obscenity of Egyptian "show trials" since Al-Sisi, with outside help and encouragement, staged the coup of   3rd July 2013 and overthrew a democratically elected President. For as long as western governments and Israel continue to support and bolster this tinpot dictator, loathed by the majority of Egyptians, so will he continue his program of imprisonments, show trials, persecution and executions of any people or groups opposed to his despotic regime.  He has been give "carte blanche" by the west to crush any opposition, real or imagined, to permanently extinguish all traces of the "Egyptian Spring", to re install a military dictatorship in the country. In December of 2013, I wrote in New Agenda under the heading of "T he Egyptian people are th...

The death sentence from the Kangaroo Court in Cairo

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/africa/former-egyptian-president-sentenced-to-death-10254860.html     Mohamed Morsi sentenced to death: Ousted President Mohamed Morsi   The final verdict in this sham show trial will be handed down by the "court", otherwise known as Al-Sisi's mouthpiece,on the 4th June. The United States, the United Kingdom and those in Europe who have supported and encouraged the illegal regime in Cairo, who overthrew a democratically elected President because he would not capitulate to "the West" and Israel, should hold their heads in shame at their hypocrisy and complicity in this affair. Al-Sisi, Killer Of Egypt's Democracy Al-Sisi may or may not order the execution to take place (The Mufti can only act in an advisory capacity),as the actual event, whatever the outcome, can only reinforce the contempt of people around the world for western governments and their duplicity in this shabby affair. ...

International condemnation for Egypt show trial

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/africa/three-aljazeera-journalists-jailed-chorus-of-international-condemnation-for-egypt-trial--this-isnt-a-system-everything-is-corrupt-9558293.html   Journalists' sentences prompt international outrage    The show trials in Egypt claim more victims as three Al-Jazeera journalists are jailed for seven years. This verdict and the resulting sentences has nothing to do, as has been suggested elsewhere, with some dispute between Saudi Arabia and Qatar, except perhaps in the sense that Egypt lost funding from Qatar which, in any case, was replaced by Saudi Arabia, following the coup of July last year. This latest episode of the Egyptian show trial pantomime, continues the sequence of judicial power being used to suppress freedoms and to quash opposition. This time, the message has been circulated to all journalists that you may report what you will, but you will only report what we allow.   Journalists jailed fo...

A sham election to legitimise a coup.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/egypt-elections-the-coronation-of-the-emperor-9442400.html     Egypt elections extended amid weak turnout  Egypt extended its presidential election an extra day as the government, military and supporters of front-runner Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi are scrambled to increase turnout after two days of reportedly thin voting     Egyptians have been given an extra day to cast their ballots in the country's presidential election, after two days of low voter numbers at polling booths.   Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is so popular with the Egyptian people, that the polls have been extended to try and get more people to vote. Polling stations empty, few voters but still only one pre determined winner. No doubt the final figures will show that "99% of voters" cast their ballots and of these the "vast majority" chose al-Sisi. A sham election, with a sham outcome. The coup of last year (no matter what...

Egyptian show trials hand down first verdicts.

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/mar/24/egypt-morsi-supporters-death-sentence   Egyptian court issues death sentences to 529 supporters of President Mohammed Morsi   Morsi supporters face anti-riot police officers in Cairo 529 death sentences, with  more to follow and culminating no doubt, with a death sentence for President Mohamed Morsi after his sham show trial. A despotic military dictatorship under the junta headed by Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, handing out "justice" to any and all opposition, following their coup of July 2013. A coup incidentally supported and encouraged by the United States, the "champion of freedom and democracy"  (albeit even to this day, the Americans refuse to acknowledge or accept that the events of last year were a coup), supported by the British government who invariably follow the American lead and enthusiastically endorsed by "Peace envoy"  Tony Blair with his comments of July 2013 immediately after the mili...

Military junta puts President Morsi on trial.

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/nov/03/egypt-high-alert-mohamed-morsi-trial Egypt on high alert as Mohamed Morsi trial threatens to revive civil unrest President Mohammed Morsi   A "show trial" where the verdict is already reached but not yet announced. No matter which way the "anti Morsi" factions seek to embellish reality and change the historical fact, President Mohammed Morsi was removed from office by an illegal military coup. Not that in itself that is anything new for Egypt. The previous Presidencies of Nasser, Sadat and Mubarak have all demonstrated that the real power in Egypt lies with the military, since Nasser (formally Revolutionary Command Council Vice Chairman), assumed power in the 1950's. The point is that Morsi was democratically elected, the first such elected President in the recent history of Egypt and was overthrown by a military coup led by Abdel Fatah al-Sisi who installed Adly Mansour as the puppet "interim Pres...

A prosecution arising from pique.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/judge-casts-doubt-on-damage-caused-by-whistleblower-bradley-mannings-leaks-of-secret-us-data-8750981.html Judge casts doubt on damage caused by whistleblower Bradley Manning’s leaks of secret US data Bradley Manning Assange, Snowden and Manning   Manning's prosecution was never more than a temper tantrum from the American government, because someone had the audacity to tell the truth and expose government and military wrong doing. The American administration was embarrassed, furious and vindictive in its compulsion to put Manning on trial and press for the severest punishment possible. Manning was to be made an example of, a lesson for any other person who may have some "problems" with American policy or action and consequently seeks to expose excesses and wrong doings carried out by the government in the name of "peace and freedom". A similar fate would await Assange in the event that Amer...

Evidence, inadmissable as "Not relevant".

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/jan/17/bradley-manning-denied-chance-whistleblower-defence Judge rules that Manning will not be allowed to present evidence about his motives. Colonel Denise Lind ruled that general issues of motive were not relevant to the trial stage of the court martial. Bradley Manning faces charges that include aiding the enemy The Americans are determined to achieve a conviction no matter what they have to do to secure one. This would be the same fate that would befall Julian Assange, if American pressure for his extradition were to succeed. Ruling that great chunks of evidence are inadmissible, particularly where such evidence could be embarrassing to the government is reminiscent of the "Show Trials" of the 1930's in the Soviet Union.   Moscow ' Show Trials '. In 1936 In this respect there seem little to choose between today's USA and Stalin's USSR.
