£31billion for 4 submarines while 1 million families rely on Foodbanks.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/labour-could-boycott-trident-vote-to-stem-internal-rebellion-a6844071.html The Conservatives want to hold a snap vote in the House of Commons to approve the construction of four new submarines HMS Vigilant, one of four submarines carrying the Trident missile   The government can "find" £31billion to renew weapons of mass destruction, but cannot afford to build houses for people crying out for homes. They can find £31billion to build 4 new submarines, but cannot afford to adequately fund welfare for the sick, disabled and pensioners. The government can ignore more than 1 million families, reliant on Foodbanks and other charities, to fund a prestige project implemented with the ultimate objective of killing millions of men, women and children. Rather than boycotting a vote in the House of Commons, the whole of the Parliamentary Labour Party, together with the wider Labour movement in the country and trade unions...

Where should we spend £34billion of taxpayers money?

http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2015/oct/30/corbyn-backs-calls-for-scottish-labour-to-vote-against-trident-renewal Corbyn backs calls for Scottish Labour to vote against Trident renewal Kezia Dugdale  Scottish Labour leader It is beyond belief that in a week which saw impassioned speeches against cuts to Income Tax Credits, and equally passionate speeches from supporters of the cuts, arguing how the country cannot afford to continue to support families who rely on the "top up" to their income, that there can be any debate surrounding a replacement for the existing Trident "deterrent". In 2014 Working Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit had a combined cost £30 billion per year. However, the high cost of this benefit is predominately due to more firms taking the option to pay lower salaries and even offer even more "Zero hour" contracts, knowing that the government will subsidise the low pay with taxpayers money. This is not an argument for cuttin...

Another recollection of words written some years ago.

Another of Sandra's poems from some years ago. “Perfidy” You who spoke with twisted tongue, You who Glory's emblem hung Above the world to mask your lie And doomed the innocent to die. You who told them victory Would bring them strength and unity. How dared you dignify a war? You whose hand was but a claw, Talons grasping. Power lust Crushed their hope and faith to dust. You their honour so defiled When to the human race you lied.

A recollection of words written some years ago.

My wife Sandra, (Facebook page Sandra Yates), has for some years been writing poetry as a hobby. She has recently become interested in politics, and has joined the Labour party. During the Labour party conference, the issue of, “pressing the button” arose which generated a great deal of comment in the media and amongst members of the party. It also caused Sandra to recall a poem which she had written some 25 years ago. This is it. “Desolation” The grass is white: In England The cattle graze no more In once luxuriant pastures Enjoyed by them before. The trees are bare: In England The birds no longer rest Within once laden branches So safely in their nest. There is silence now: In England No children's voices bring To once vivacious playgrounds A happy, lively ring. What happened to the grass and trees? What hushed the child at play? What happened to the cows and birds, What made them die away? Well, a finger pressed the button Meant only for ...

A debate in the Labour Party that has been around for 70 years which the media now calls a "new" split.

http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2015/sep/30/labour-split-on-defence-grows-as-eagle-criticises-corbyn-over-trident   Labour split on defence grows as Maria Eagle criticises Corbyn over Trident    The "row" within the labour party, as the hysterical media report it, or the debate as it actually is (and as sensible people describe it), surrounding the question of nuclear weapons and “deterrence” has been going on for decades. Since the 1945 in fact, when the sights and sounds of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were still fresh in the mind as recent memory or for some, actual experience, the abhorrence and revulsion at the thought that any civilised nation could employ weapons of mass destruction against the civilian population of another country has for many, been too awful to contemplate. The debate has moved on since then, through the CND days of the 1950's, the Aldermaston Ma...

Former Bullingdon Club member uncovers another threat to national security

http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2015/aug/31/jeremy-corbyn-poses-national-security-threat-george-osborne Jeremy Corbyn poses national security threat, says George Osborne       Gideon Oliver Osborne (changed his name to George when he was 13) Gideon is an idiot. There are hundreds of thousands (if not more) people in this country who are opposed to the renewal of Trident. Are we all a "national security threat"?  If we are, we should all be arrested under the "Anti terrorism" acts and held in prison (usually without charge or trial) to protect the public. The flaw in this of course, is that Gideon and his wretched colleagues in this government (and the one preceding this lot), are careering along the "austerity" road and have inflicted so many cuts that they do not have enough prison spaces to hold us all. As someone once said "Osborne you are a plonker"

Remember Nagasaki. 9th August 1945

Only one country has ever used nuclear weapons against the civilian population of another country.  A mushroom cloud from an atomic bomb rises over Nagasaki. At least 70,000 died in the Nagasaki attack, which came three days after another bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. Nagasaki was only chosen because the original target, Kokura, was obscured by a cloud. Much of the city was flattened by the attack

The United Kingdom gives £ millions in aid while the ordinary people starve.

At the same time millions of ordinary Indian people live in abject poverty in over populated shanty towns and poor villages across the sub continent.   A rotten and corrupt government who have a large space programme, a nuclear weapons capability, an ever expanding military and a very wealthy "establishment" in control. The irony is that we, the United Kingdom, pour £millions into their country every year. The tax payers of this country fund t...

Trident "stops nuclear blackmail", says commission.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/keeping-trident-stops-nuclear-blackmail-claims-crossparty-commission-9570682.html Keeping Trident 'stops nuclear blackmail,' claims cross-party commission. "Trident Commission" Arrant nonsense from the "Trident Commission" (a cross-party commission led by two former defence secretaries and a former leader of the Liberal Democrats.). The Trident nuclear deterrent is not "independent" and it doesn't deter, so we may as well save the money to spend on more important things. NHS, schools, eliminating the need for food banks for example.
