The rewards for incompetence

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/05/21/nhs-boss-david-nicholson-to-quit_n_3312737.html?utm_hp_ref=uk   The head of the NHS Sir David Nicholson is to step down from his role Sir David Nicholson.   Jeremy Hunt: "Surprised" at decision.   Allowed to retire. Nice big "Pension Pot". Nicholson should have been sacked months ago. If anyone failed in their job as much as this person has, any employer would have deemed it to be gross incompetence and summarily dismissed him without pension, pay or reference. He would then have had to argue his case for unfair dismissal at a tribunal. However, with this Tory government, inept and incompetent people in Public positions can retain "Downing Street's full confidence" and in this case the unqualified support of the Health secretary. It seems that we reward failure and condone ineptitude.

David Nicholson "Had no idea"

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/03/05/sir-david-nicholson-says-he-will-not-resign_n_2810508.html?utm_hp_ref=uk     Sir David Nicholson Says He Will Not Resign Over Mid Staffs Scandal   David Nicholson said he had "no idea" about the scandal     David Nicholson should not be given the option of resignation. He should be fired for his gross incompetence and his inept and rambling excuses during submissions to the Health Select Committee yesterday. However, in the perverse world that is Westminster , Cameron, Hunt and other s have rushed to Nicholson's defence and stating that he has their "full confidence". We should not be surprised if Nicholson far from being fired, actually receives a bonus for his involvement in the NHS on top of his already inflated salary.

"The buck" does not even reach here it seems.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/9884358/Mid-Staffs-scandal-NHS-chief-must-not-be-a-scapegoat-says-PM.html     Mid Staffs scandal: NHS chief must not be a scapegoat, says PM     Mr Cameron insisted that Sir David, right, has  explained himself well  Ultimately, Sir David Nicholson, the chief executive is responsible for what has happened and why it was not exposed sooner, notwithstanding that he was not CEO in the early days of the scandal. However, those individuals and those responsi ble for those individuals who were part of the abuse and the subsequent concealment of the truth, must be subject to disciplinary actions and where necessary criminal charges. For Cameron to defend and support the individuals involved , demonstrates a complete disregard for the victims and their families.

Targets and cost cutting are more important than patients

http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/health-news/mid-staffs-inquiry-how-a-10year-coverup-was-uncovered-8484075.html        "They were failed by a system which ignored the warning signs and put corporate self-interest and cost control ahead of patients and safety.” Mid Staffordshire NHS Trust Report A scathing indictment of a system and culture which, sadly, is not limited to Mid Staffordshire NHS Trust. Already we have the statement that another eight hospitals in 5 other NHS Trusts are to be investigated as a matter of urgency. There are without doubt other hospitals which should be subjected to scrutiny, and their performance and shortcomings exposed. Of course this is not to say that all hospitals in all Trusts are providing inadequate or incompetent standards of service for their patients. There are some, perhaps many hospitals where the standards of care are beyond reproach, From my own ...
