The great obscenity of the privatisation of the water companies, is that a government took what the nation already owned, sold it to their friends in the city, who then offered shares for sale to a few small "investors" and control of the water industry to a small number of large corporations who have been milking the profits ever since. The planners must recognise that "mineral extraction is essential to local and national economies" and consequently must do everything possible to fast track applications and thereby ensure that the drilling companies are able to peruse their quest for profits. It is of course a coincidence that these drilling companies are major contributors to Conservative party funds, and the governments instructions to Planning authorities are solely for the benefit of society.

  Desalination-plant About bloody time too. If other countries can build and use desalination plants there is no reason why it should be any different in the UK. The Water Companies extort enough profits from their customers so instead of paying huge bonuses to themselves and their "share holders" at the expense of any other form of meaningful investment they should building desalination plants around the British coast and pumping clean water in a "national grid".
