Holding the country to ransom: Nissan might leave if UK quits EU

http://www.theguardian.com/business/2013/nov/08/nissan-automotive-industry Carlos Ghosn, head of car maker, suggests 6,500 jobs would be threatened by a yes vote in referendum Carlos Ghosn suggested Nissan might stop making cars in Britain   If this very rich  French-Lebanese-Brazilian were a Trade Union leader, he would be the target of the Sun, Mail, Telegraph, BBC, Sky News and all the other worker bashing media, demonised and vilified for holding the country to ransom with demands. In this instance however, Carlos Ghosn seeks to blackmail an entire nation into voting for his preferred position on EU membership, with the threat that  "  the car maker would reconsider its future in the UK if a push to leave the European Union succeeds.". To threaten the employment of 6,500 people and their families is a despicable act of a nasty little man, clearly capable of resorting to any measure in order to achieve his own ends.

The "stick" may be more successful than the "carrot".

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/exclusive-labour-would-give-tax-rebates-to-firms-that-pay-living-wage-8919252.html Labour would give tax rebates to firms that pay living wage A Labour government would encourage businesses to sign up to "make work pay contracts"    Even with the "encouragement" of financial bribes, Miliband's belief in the integrity of firms and businesses is greater than mine. History demonstrates all too clearly that when government offers financial incentives for firms to take specific measures to encourage employment or increase minimum wages and salaries, the majority of companies will invariably find some means of accepting the grants and some means of avoiding or minimising their commitments under the agreement. Perhaps Miliband should be thinking more along the lines of the stick rather than the carrot to encourage firms to pay their workers the "living wage".

More absurd suggestions from the Tax Payers Alliance

A fringe pressure group, lurking somewhere on the right of British politics, who regularly come out with some headline or other, usually ill conceived and certainly ill-considered, seeking to grab attention and peddle what they consider may be popular with public opinion. When looked at more closely, the TPA argument is clearly unrealistic nonsense. The number of people out of work is 2.51 million in June, according to the Office for National Statistics of which 1.4 million are actually claiming Jobseeker's Allowance. The Tax Pa...
