United States abstains on settlements vote.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/dec/24/israel-rejects-shameful-un-resolution-amid-criticism-of-netanyahu Israel rejects 'shameful' UN resolution  In a fit of furious outrage and pique, Benjamin Netanyahu throws his toys from the pram and immediately recalls Israel’s ambassadors to New Zealand and Senegal in addition to stopping all current aid to Senegal.  Settlement in Jerusalem The building of settlements on Palestinian lands occupied by Israel after the 1967 war, has for many years been condemned by the "International Community" and the United Nations as bein g illegal, but Israel has been supported in its defiance of international opinion by successive American administrations. United States abstains Now with no veto from the United States, Netanyahu is absolutely furious today. For probably the first time, the USA has (even if by default) been critical of Israel. They should have gone ...

The "revolutionary", who brought higher living standards, free education and free healthcare to the people of Cuba.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/nov/26/fidel-castro-cuba-revolutionary-icon-dies Fidel Castro dies aged 90 Fidel Castro was a South American revolutionary who together with Che Guevara freed the people of Cuba from the despotic and corrupt Mafia controlled rule of Fulgencio Batista in the late 1950's. Ernesto  " Che "  Guevara Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz Fulgencio Batista Zaldívar Castro created a socialist society in Cuba building schools, hospitals and public utilities and improving living standards, providing free health care and education and improving adult literacy. Against a background of perpetual American sanctions and embargo's in place for almost 50 years, together with numerous assassination attempts, Castro maintained programmes which have led to Cuba now having first-world levels of literacy and life expectancy. President Obama goes too far in promoting the "Stay In Europe" campaign.

http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/apr/22/barack-obama-brexit-uk-back-of-queue-for-trade-talks “The UK is going to be in the back of the queue.”  "go to the back of the queue" Barack Obama, has gone too far in this latest outpouring of support for Cameron and the "Remain in the EU" campaign. There is a very fine line between a Presidential personal opinion and a United States Presidential instruction to the people of another country to "do the right thing" and vote in a particular way. Coupled with the threat that the United Kingdom would "go to the back of the queue" (a strangely "English" word not usually used by Americans who prefer "the line"), Obama has thrown his weight into the into the remain lobby, with a script which could and probably was influenced if not written, by Cameron and his team. The British people do not respond well to threats and intimidation from what ever source, but the e...

Making a complex situation even more insoluble.

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/oct/30/syria-us-deployment-troops-obama-special-operations#comments   Obama orders US special forces to 'assist' fight against Isis in Syria White House press secretary Josh Earnest. In 1950, Truman sent "military advisers" to assist the French in their fight against Viet Minh forces. In the 1960's newly elected Kennedy sent more "advisers" to assist (prop up) the Saigon government in their fight against the Viet Cong.  Now, Obama sends US special forces into Syria to “Advise and assist” rebel armies in the northern Syria who are fighting Isis. This western generated mess becomes even more complex with the North FSA/Turkish/Kurdish/Isis conflict with the American advisers supporting 3 of these factions all fighting each other! Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. This time however, the United States is making a complete mess even more insoluble.

A "civil war" with many sides and no prospect of resolution.

http://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/world/heres-how-syria-became-hell-on-earth/ar-AAf8uJ1?li=AAaeUIW&ocid=U142DHP     Here's how Syria became hell on earth Bashar al Assad   One of the many sides             Civil War  "The US and its allies have spent the past four years trying to figure out who to support in the conflict, and how. " That phrase sums it up in a nutshell and even right up to now, the US and its allies still have no idea what they are trying to do, or how to do it. The House of Commons may soon be asked (again) by the government to authorise British military involvement in this conflict. Any United Kingdom politician  voting in favour of authorising such intervention, no matter how limited, will be guilty of committing our service personnel to a civil war where there are numerous hostile combatants all fighting against each other and where ther...

The media are scrapping the barrel looking for "smears"

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/jeremy-corbyn-compares-actions-of-isis-to-us-military-and-says-some-of-what-they-have-done-is-quite-appalling-10464596.html Jeremy Corbyn compares actions of Isis to US military and says 'some of what they have done is quite appalling' Jeremy Corbyn addressing another packed meeting The media, this time the Independent", are really scrapping the barrel as they leap onto the anti Corbyn bandwagon with another distorted smear. What Corbyn actually said was:  "Yes they (ISIS) are brutal, yes some of what they have done is quite appalling. Likewise, what the Americans did in Fallujah and other places is appalling". He is absolutely right, what happened in Fallujah was appalling and ISIS are brutal. Why the media should be so aroused by someone speaking the truth has more to do with their hypocrisy in reporting "news"designed to smear Corbyn (again) than with any sense, however misguide...

Remember Nagasaki. 9th August 1945

Only one country has ever used nuclear weapons against the civilian population of another country.  A mushroom cloud from an atomic bomb rises over Nagasaki. At least 70,000 died in the Nagasaki attack, which came three days after another bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. Nagasaki was only chosen because the original target, Kokura, was obscured by a cloud. Much of the city was flattened by the attack

Remember Hiroshima. August 6th 1945

Only one country has ever used nuclear weapons against the civilian population of another country.  The mushroom cloud after the atomic bombing of Hiroshima Hiroshima Gas Company Building and the ruins of the Honkawa Elementary School.   August 6th 1945. 80,000 people were killed instantly and thousands more have died from injuries or illness attributed to the attack.

Who's side are you on?

Chaos. Kurds from Turkey and Syria pull down border fences The Kurds are fighting against ISIS and the Turks. Turkey is fighting against ISIS and the Kurds. ISIS is fighting against the Turks and the Kurds. All are fighting against Bashar al-Assad and the Syrian Government. The Americans (closely followed by Cameron) are fighting against ISIS in support of the Syrian government and therefore must be fighting against the Turks and the Kurds. ("My enemy's enemy is my friend" and all that tosh) Is it really possible to have 4 (plus Cameron) different sides in one war all fighting against each other?

A history of failed foreign policy.

http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/comment/what-a-choice-for-egypt--a-megalomaniac-president-or-the-madness-of-isis-10400354.html What a choice for Egypt – a megalomaniac president or the madness of Isis American "foreign policy"  As is invariably the case in the foreign policy options of the United States, particularly in the Middle east, the American have managed to screw up an entire country and crate an infinitely worse and more dangerous situation than that which existed before their infantile meddling. By encouraging and supporting (perhaps even participating in) the overthrow of a democratically elected President and replacing him with a military dictatorship led by a despotic little General, the Americans have ensured that Isis (another failed experiment where an American organised and financed organisation has morphed into a dangerous and brutal "terrorist" group) has spread its influence to yet another country. The evidence after years o...

Brussels throws insults at the Greeks, as the deadline arrives.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/greece-debt-crisis-athens-has-one-day-to-find-16bn-10353977.html Athens has just one day to find €1.6bn as it edges nearer euro exit Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has been branded reckless and a feckless liar by EU leaders The powers of the IMF, Brussels, the European Central Bank and European Commission now with the added weight of Barak Obama of the United States and Li Keqiang the Premiere of China, pile the pressure onto the Greek people to capitulate to the demands and ultimatum of Merkel, Lagarde and Jean-Claude Juncker. Jean-Claude Juncker appealed to Greeks to vote Yes in the referendum Make no mistake. The European Union is operated for the benefit of financiers, bankers and business interests and has little if anything, to do with peace and stability in Europe or the well being of the 500 million or so ordinary people who live within its borders. Any member country government who has th...

Who is on who's side in this chaos?

Confused? So are they. The result of American, British and European foreign policy in the region over many decades.

The death sentence from the Kangaroo Court in Cairo

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/africa/former-egyptian-president-sentenced-to-death-10254860.html     Mohamed Morsi sentenced to death: Ousted President Mohamed Morsi   The final verdict in this sham show trial will be handed down by the "court", otherwise known as Al-Sisi's mouthpiece,on the 4th June. The United States, the United Kingdom and those in Europe who have supported and encouraged the illegal regime in Cairo, who overthrew a democratically elected President because he would not capitulate to "the West" and Israel, should hold their heads in shame at their hypocrisy and complicity in this affair. Al-Sisi, Killer Of Egypt's Democracy Al-Sisi may or may not order the execution to take place (The Mufti can only act in an advisory capacity),as the actual event, whatever the outcome, can only reinforce the contempt of people around the world for western governments and their duplicity in this shabby affair. ...

Simon Calder of the Independent is way off the mark.

http://www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-and-advice/a380-celebrates-first-decade-in-flight--but-how-long-will-it-last-10205583.html Aviation history is littered with failures - not just the fatally flawed Comet 1, the hopelessly timed Bristol Brabazon and the terminally unviable Concorde.   (Simon Calder. Travel Correspondent for the Independent) Concord. Murdered by the United States aviation industry   The Concord was not a failure. It was a wonderful aircraft in concept, design and build and was far in advance of anything then on the market. The Concord was, in fact, murdered by the American government and the American aircraft manufacturing lobby led by Boeing. At that time the Boeing SST design and build programme was at least 6 years behind the Aerospatiale BAC joint venture to build a supersonic passenger aircraft. Similarly, the Rolls Royce/SNECMA engines were ahead of the Pratt and Whitney engines for the Boeing aircraft. For these reasons, and...

The futility of one month of Saudi airstrikes.

The Saudi government and the royal family however have more than enough of the most up to date western supplied weaponary and aircraft to maintain control within their own borders and now have the addition of the American aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt and the cruiser USS Normandy to bolster their defences against the perceived "threat" of Iran. The Yanks are comming! USS Theodore Roosevelt The paranoid mentality of ...

The Al-Sisi junta and the latest show trial.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/ousted-egyptian-president-mohammed-morsi-jailed-for-20-years-over-the-death-of-protesters-10191546.html Mohamed Morsi: Ousted Egyptian president jailed for 20 years      Mohamed Morsi: Egypt's first freely elected leader Bloody outrageous. The Show trials set up by the Al-Sisi dictatorship claims another victim. The democtatically elected Presisident of Egypt, overthrown in a Coup instigated by Al-Sisi and supported and encouraged by the United States has avoided the death penalty but faces 20 years in prison. The "Democracies" of the world particularly the United States, should hang their heads in shame at this insult to the principle of justice and their part in supporting the growing excesses of the Al-Sisi cabal. This is a bad day for democracy.

It is not just a conflict between Sunni and Shia.

In recent years, United States foreign policy in the region has compounded and amplified an already volatile environment and made the situation even worse. When drawing artificial borders to give effect to the Sykes-Picot Agreement of 1915/1916, the map makers did not understand, or completely ignored, all those factors which since the beginning of time, have been taken as the demarcation lines between countries. Borders have historically foll...

Coming out of the woodwork.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/john-prescott-links-tony-bl-airs-invasion-of-iraq-with-radicalisation-of-young-muslims-10108322.html   John Prescott links Tony Blair's Iraq invasion with radicalisation of young Muslims Former deputy PM  believes the 2003 invasion of Iraq was 'wrong'   How strange and sad that the politicians (and others) now crawling out of the wood work to criticise Blair and the other warmongers for their illegal wars in Iraq and Libya and the folly of the Afghanistan invasion, have taken so long to speak out publicly. Had they had the backbone to take a stand against Blair and Bush and stay out of American interventions at the time, then perhaps this country would have been spared the consequences of these wars and many families in the United Kingdom would have been spared the trauma of losing loved ones in the pointless and futile conflicts.    Even at the time, there was substantial public o...

A corrupt and rotten regime

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/egypt-coup-leaked-tape-proves-defence-minister-tried-to-conceal-morsis-true-location-in-military-prison-say-forensic-scientists-10066042.html Egypt coup: Leaked tape proves defence minister tried to conceal Morsi’s true location in military prison      With all the experience that America has in organising coup de tat in other peoples countries, they seem to have missed a few points when advising Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and his gang of conspirators.   This revelation of new evidence will not make one iota of difference.  The al-Sisi cabal will continue their ruthless suppression of all opposition and their obscene show trials of Innocent people and the Americans will continue to deny that the events of 2013 were in fact a coup de tat, which will allow them to carry on pouring armaments, aircraft and cash into the Egyptian military machine. A corrupt and rotten administratio...

An unacceptable delay.

The inquiry completed its public hearings in 2011 Sir John Chilcot opened his two-year inquiry in 2009 There are a number of examples, particularly over recent years, where issues of great interest or even concern to the public, have been ignored, delayed or even stopped from investigation (as was the case of the BAE Systems involvement in bribery and corruption in Saudi Arabia). The badly worn clichés of "not in the public interest" or insufficient evidence", have been trotted out by the "authorities" as if in some way these weasel words will pacify people into accepting the government or the DPP or who ever know best and we should not press the matter further. We all know however, that the reasons for delay or abandonment of investigations into these matters, is usually more to do with avoidance of possible exposure or embarrassment for government or individuals, than with informing the public of facts. The Hillsborough investigation is perhaps t...
