Fitness-for-work tests unfair on people with mental health problems

http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2013/may/22/fitness-work-tests-mental-health-unfair?commentpage=3 Work capability assessments place those with mental health conditions at substantial disadvantage, judge concludes   The judge ruled that the Department for Work and Pensions had breached its duties to make 'reasonable adjustments' under the Equality Act to ensure that people with mental health problems were treated fairly. Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan-Smith   No doubt that the Department for Work and Pensions led by the odious Iain Duncan-Smith will move swiftly to challenge this ruling or change the rules and the law,to plug this hole in their obnoxious plans. Foot note: The DWP said it would appeal against the ruling, and stated it did not intend to halt the assessment process.

Propaganda breakdown.

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/05/09/iain-duncan-smith-benefit-cap-rebuked_n_3245186.html?utm_hp_ref=uk  Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan-Smith has been rebuked for falsely claiming the coalition's controversial benefits cap had already caused 8,000 people to move into jobs. Ever since Roman times, politicians (and others) have used propaganda to spread ideas and perceptions amongst people, to further a specific message or political position. Garth Jowett and Victoria O'Donnell provided  a definition as  "Propaganda is the deliberate, systematic attempt to shape perceptions, manipulate cognitions, and direct behavior to achieve a response that furthers the desired intent of the propagandist." The most refined manifestation of this was of course, Joseph Goebbels and his use of a propaganda machine between 1926 and 1945 in Germany. "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it". ...

The carrot is more effective than the stick.

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/04/29/universal-credit_iain-duncan-smith-jobcentre-_n_3176401.html?utm_hp_ref=uk Universal Credit, will be introduced in four local jobcentres in selected areas of Ashton-under-Lyme, Oldham, Warrington and Wigan. Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith    There is a fundamental flaw in the economic logic that argues by essentially, cutting benefit payments it will somehow, automatically "force" people back to work. Wrong. The way to achieve the objective of getting people off benefits (and thereby cutting the amount of benefit payments), is to generate the conditions and the environment where work is available. Given that the majority of claimants would rather be gainfully employed, it seems reasonable to assume that people would take up work, were the opportunities there to do so. Clearly, the private sector has had only a marginal effect in the creation of real job opportunities. It therefore follows t...

Service industries are good but the country needs more jobs in manufacturing.

http://www.dorsetecho.co.uk/news/localnews/10326074.Restaurants_bring_jobs_boost_at_Dorchester_s_Brewery_Square/  Where are the manufacturing jobs? PLAN: Andrew Wadsworth with a model of Brewery Square     Getting people into work is always welcome, but when are we going to start crating work in manufacturing industries rather than service industries. Growth in this country will not come about as a result of selling a few more Margherita pizzas, Sushi dishes or Linguine ai Gamberi.

Another Iain Duncan Smith failure.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/not-so-universal-credit-government-puts-the-brakes-on-trials-of-its-controversial-new-benefits-programme-8554053.html Ministers have significantly scaled back plans to begin piloting their controversial universal credit programme next month.  Iain Duncan Smith: Secretary of State for Work and pensions   Another Iain Duncan Smith failure. This man is an embarrassment to all and sundry. Everything Midas touched turned to gold, but in the case of IDS, everything he touches turns to rat droppings.

IDS and his interpretation of the word, "fair".

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/03/10/iain-duncan-smith-justin-welby-reforms_n_2849177.html?utm_hp_ref=uk Iain Duncan Smith, Work and Pensions Secretary said "fairness" was at the centre of the overhaul he was steering through parliament.   Iain Duncan Smith   Iain Duncan Smith, failed Conservative party leader, failed shadow defence secretary, central character in "Betsygate" and arch enemy of working people, (to mention just a few points from his rather checkered past), considers that it is fair to attack the sick, the disabled and young in the name of welfare reforms. His understanding of the word fair is as warped as is his personality.

Iain Duncan Smith looses his temper again.

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/02/20/iain-duncan-smiths-explodes-on-lbc-over-workfare_n_2725765.html?utm_hp_ref=uk  Iain Duncan Smith's Anger Over Poundland, Workfare And Cait Reilly    LBC's James O'Brien Iain Duncan Smith lost his rag   Iain Duncan Smith is loosing his temper more and more often recently. Just listen to the supercilious Work and pensions secretary in this interview with James O'Brien.     https://audioboo.fm/boos/1223720-iain-duncan-smith-s-explosive-row-with-james-o-brien   Duncan Smith's behaviour and outburst over the past few months is indicative of the fact the he is loosing it completely and slipping into a "through the looking glass" world of his own reality. Totally ignoring the questions and talking over any comments made by the interviewer, Duncan Smith rants on about "workfare", "the taxpayer paying her (Cait Reilly) wages", "jobseekers being lucky that ...
