Is Chinese investment in the provision of our nuclear power really such a good idea?

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/comment/hinkley-point-reasons-not-to-be-suspicious-of-chinese-investment-a7166576.html Reasons not to be suspicious of Chinese nuclear investment A rather curious article from Ben Chu and the Independent, essentially telling the readers that there is nothing to worry about in having huge Chinese involvement in the generation of nuclear power in this country. Rather in the same way as George Osborne heaped praise and encouragement on Chinese investments in the United Kingdom up until a few weeks ago. Add caption I recently wrote that personally, I have never been enthusiastic about the Hinkley Point C development. The spiralling costs of the project, which are confidently expected to rise even more and the evidence that time-scale (which is already three years late) will extend well beyond the completion date of 2020, are in themselves sufficient grounds for abandoning the project now. Added to that, the unit p...

British government sacrifices thousands of jobs and families in the steel industry as a thank you to China,

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2016/03/30/britain-sacrifices-steel-industry-to-curry-favour-with-china/ Britain sacrifices steel industry to curry favour with China "The British are sacrificing an entire European industry to say thank you to China for signing up to the nuclear power project at Hinkley Point, said one official in Brussels bitterly. If we can bail out the banks with £ billions to save a few bankers and hedge fund managers, we can invest in our steel industry to save thousand of jobs and families. T housands of British jobs put at risk at Tata Steel, because this government refuses to intervene in any positive way. Thousands more jobs put at risk in associated and other business reliant on the demand generated by steel workers families. This government should stop the dumping of cheap steel (predominately by their new friends in China) onto our markets, subsidise production of steel to reduc e the costs of our steel, take Tata in...

Another British Industry sacrificed on the altar of Conservative Party economic dogma.

http://www.theguardian.com/business/2015/oct/21/cameron-accused-of-misleading-steelworkers-over-80m-aid-fund Cameron accused of misleading steelworkers over £80m aid fund   Steel workers at the Tata Steel plant in Motherwell   Thatcher started this destruction of British industry and Cameron continues her evil work. Heavily State subsidised imports from abroad, this time it is steel, are allowed to flood into this country but the government refuses such support to our own industry. As a result, because our own industries are unable to compete with the cheap (on price and quality) imports, the government  allows the plants to close and the workers to be made redundant. The government justification for allowing the extinction of the industry is the fallacious lie that the industry is noncompetitive and "market forces"  must be allowed to determine the outcome. Not only does this country loose the manufacturing facility, it also loses the skills as...

British workers made redundant as State subsidised Chinese steel floods onto our markets and we treat them to a Sate Banquet !

http://www.theguardian.com/business/live/2015/oct/20/steel-crisis-grows-as-tata-unveils-job-cuts-business-live Steel crisis grows as Tata unveils job cuts Hundreds of SSI workers try to find work at a jobs fair in Redcar for steelworkers made redundant . China continues to dump its state subsidised steel onto our markets as another 1200 people at least are made redundant to join the 5000 already announced from the closures of SSI and CAPRO. Against this background Cameron begs for Chinese money for other United Kingdom projects (which will undoubtedly cause even more redundancies for British workers) by welcoming Chinese President Xi Jinping on a state visit to this country. President Xi Jinping and his wife arrive in London for a state visit to Britain The Buckingham Palace ballroom set for a state banquet This evening, the Chinese President and his delegation together with Cameron and other "dignitaries" are being entertained at a l...

British Prime Minister grovelling to serial abusers of human rights and worse.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/david-cameron-seeks-chinese-support-6654559#ICID=sharebar_facebook   David Cameron seeks Chinese support to bomb Syria in talks with president    This is bloody incredible. The British Prime Minister seeking support for intervention in Syria, from the President of a torturing regime, steeped in the blood of hundreds of thousands of people, serial abusers of human rights and civil liberties. Seeking support when the House of Commons has not debated the issue of UK intervention. Seeking support when the Chinese dump steel onto the markets and cause thousands of British workers to be made redundant. The Prime Minister of this country. leaning over backwards in the hope of getting some financial benefit from China in the form of a few more contracts, which will eventually lead to even more British workers being made redundant. A pathetic Prime Minister demonstrating all of his Tory philosophy where money is the ...

What makes a "best friend"?

http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2015/oct/18/britian-has-made-visionary-choice-to-become-chinas-best-friend-says-xi Britain has made 'visionary' choice to become China's best friend, says Xi   We, the United Kingdom that is, seem to have a most bizarre collection of "friends". China, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Israel, India, UAE and Thailand rate amongst the more repressive regimes around the world and have an appalling record of human rights abuses. Yet, these countries, along with a few African republics, seem to be favoured to a greater or lesser extent, as "valued customers" by sections of the United Kingdom business world, particularly in the defence sector where we have large markets for riot and civil disorder equipment, and certainly by British governments who welcome these unsavoury administrations as "great friends and allies". Certainly over recent years, where the "war on terror" has provided justification...

United Kingdom jobs for Chineese workers and lots of money for businesses supporting the Conservatives

http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2015/sep/24/hs2-bidding-process-opened-up-chinese-companies HS2 bidding process to be opened up to Chinese companies I am not asupporter of HS2. Having said that, I appreciate that the contract will be very attractive to elements within the conservative party not least of all to Cameron and Osborne who no doubt see substantial opportunities for they and their business and city "friends " to make vast sums of money for themselves and by various backdoor avenues, for the coffers of the Conservative party. As usual for prjoects of this size and nature, the British tax payers, that is you and me, will fork out huge sums, at the latest guesstimate somewhere in excess of £43billion, on the promise of hundreds of jobs for the UK economy and being "good for Britain and British travellers". This may sound all very well, but is of course complete nonsense. The reality is that sometime soon, some currently obscure Chinee...

Brussels throws insults at the Greeks, as the deadline arrives.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/greece-debt-crisis-athens-has-one-day-to-find-16bn-10353977.html Athens has just one day to find €1.6bn as it edges nearer euro exit Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has been branded reckless and a feckless liar by EU leaders The powers of the IMF, Brussels, the European Central Bank and European Commission now with the added weight of Barak Obama of the United States and Li Keqiang the Premiere of China, pile the pressure onto the Greek people to capitulate to the demands and ultimatum of Merkel, Lagarde and Jean-Claude Juncker. Jean-Claude Juncker appealed to Greeks to vote Yes in the referendum Make no mistake. The European Union is operated for the benefit of financiers, bankers and business interests and has little if anything, to do with peace and stability in Europe or the well being of the 500 million or so ordinary people who live within its borders. Any member country government who has th...

A Cameron speech for the Chinese government and their state controlled media.

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/dec/02/david-cameron-my-visit-to-china My visit can begin a relationship to benefit China, Britain and the world  David Cameron visits China on a trade mission   A relationship to benefit all, except those millions of Chinese detained without trial, or the victims of torture or those subjected to continuing and varied abuses of human rights by an oppressive and evil dictatorship, or living a daily existence of abject poverty while the ruling classes enjoy lavish lifestyles and great opulence.  David Cameron, the arch hypocrite of British politics, playing to the ruling party and Chinese State controlled media.

Hypocrisy creates bizarre bedfellows

http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2013/dec/02/david-cameron-china-advocate-western-world David Cameron says that Britain will be China's strongest advocate in western world. Chinese president Xi Jinping. and Prime Minister David Cameron    Cameron, and therefore Britain, seem to be developing a very disturbing relationship with China and its population in excess of 1.35 billion people and its appalling record of human rights abuses. When it comes to political expediency and economic hypocrisy, this British government (and previous ones, particularly that of  Tony Blair) have few equals in roundly condemning the regimes of those where we have no economic, social or political interest and completely ignoring all criticisms, conventions and any activist organisation reports from within or outside offending countries. It seems that China has joined Saudi Arabia, Burma, Bahrain, Israeli occupied Palestine, Brazil and numerous other places around the world, on ...

Cameron and yet another example of double standards.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/on-a-wing-and-a-prayer-in-sri-lanka-david-cameron-ventures-on-to-a-diplomatic-sticky-wicket-over-countrys-human-rights-record-8940582.html Cameron vows 'frank' speaking at summit  Cameron critical of Sri Lanka's human rights record  Cameron says that he is "going to raise some serious questions about war crimes and human rights abuses" while he is in Sri Lanka. He was in China a few weeks ago, and will be in that country again shortly. The question of human rights did not come up and will no doubt be ignored on his next visit. These shameless politicians seem to believe that their hypocrisy and double standards pass un noticed by the rest of us.

Sky News is obsessed with China

http://news.sky.com/story/1156724/china-man-kills-pregnant-wife-and-family What is this obsession that Sky News have with bloody China? They have already started reporting the business news from China and even weather reports. Cameron, Johnson, Osborne and the rest of the Tory sycophants may think that China is now the greatest thing since sliced bread (forget about the human rights abuses) but that is no excuse or reason for cramming this far off land down our throats every two minutes.

China is now flavour of the month for George Osborne.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/george-osborne-says-secondrate-britain-must-rediscover-its-can-do-attitude-8890558.html   Britain needs to be more like China, the Chancellor has said.     Over recent years, politicians of all political persuasions have told us that we can "learn lessons" from various locations around the world. Germany, France and numerous other countries including of course the United States, have all been listed as examples of how we should behave, or used as models for a particular way of life or civilisation, which satisfies the politicians perception of what he or she feels would make good press at home. Now it seems that China is "flavour of the month" and Osborne leads a chorus of government sycophants squabbling with each other to get their particular inane contributions into the press or on television. (Civil rights abuses are conveniently forgotten). We can only hope that Osborne, or some other g...
