Ashdown is surprised there have not been more riots.

(moranium) Ashdown posed the comment that he " is surprised there have not been more riots as a result of the recession" . In my opinion, the reason that there have been "no riots" is as I said previously, Fear. The fear of losing your job, if you are fortunate enough to have one. The fear of "kettling" by police and other security forces. The fear of government retaliation by the use of sanctions from the DWP and other government departments. The fear of having to feed your families by reliance on Foodbanks and other charities. The fear of demonisation by the press, media and other government propaganda organisations.  Only when people shake off the fear of consequence, will there be any real protests and as Ashdown puts it, "ri...

Ashdown: Defending the indefensible.

Asked why he thought that Beith had been so heavily defeated and why he and many other Liberal Democrat MP's had voted for Ashdown, a leading Liberal MP at the time responded, "We can put sense into the man with charisma, but not charisma into the man with sense". It seems that after some years of sitting on the red leather benches in the House of Lords, the charisma has melted away, and whatever "sense" the Liberal Democrats may have managed to put into the former member for Yeovil, it has been replaced by a rather confused view of reality. His comments and observations in recent years, has culminated over the past two weeks with h...

Taking loyalty to the extreme.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2012/aug/30/ministers-nick-clegg-paddy-ashdown Paddy Ashdown , the former Liberal Democrat leader, has made an impassioned plea for party members to avoid "short-term personal manoeuvring" and to stand by Nick Clegg after the first open revolt against his leadership.   Loyalty may be admirable but this is really pushing it to the boundaries. Urging party members to avoid "short-term personal manoeuvring" and to stand by Nick Clegg demonstrates a remarkable lack of judgement and brings into question Ashdown's grasp of political reality. Clegg is a liar, hypocrite and self seeking individual who has prostituted every principle the Liberal democrats may have once had. As a post from one person commenting on this article suggests, Stand behind Nick Clegg, " And push very hard".
