Historic Child Abuse Inquiry:Public hearings to commence in May ?

http://www.channelonline.tv/channelonline_jerseynews/displayarticle.asp?id=509097 Preparations underway for Historic Abuse Inquiry   On November 6th last year, I wrote in this Blog "New Agenda", that Frances Oldham QC had been nominated to Chair the Historic Child Abuse Inquiry in place of Sally Bradley QC who was originally appointed but had to withdraw due to ill health in September. I also commented that the terms of reference debate,  originally scheduled for the end of 2012,had been  was postponed until February of 2013 and most disturbingly that in November of 2013, it was "over 12 months since the States was dragged, kicking and screaming, to the decision to actually hold an inquiry into child abuse in any case". Today we learn that, "preparations for Jersey's Historic Abuse Inquiry are well underway", Well, that's a step in the right direction. I have long been critical of the apparent prevarication, delay and obstructions wh...

European Union Trade deal with United States, surrendering to multinational corporations

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/british-sovereignty-at-risk-from-euus-trade-deal-uk-in-danger-of-surrendering-judicial-independence-to-multinational-corporations-warn-activists-9057318.html British sovereignty ‘at risk’ from EU-US trade deal The domination of Europe, the Middle East and ultimately the world, by the use of corporate and where necessary military force, is and always has been at the top of the American agenda. We need only to look at the Neo Conservative manifesto and to observe how American influence has become more dominant in many parts of the world since the end of the Second World War, to appreciate the threats associated with further appeasement to the American dream.   As Churchill once said in the 1930's, in relation to "Mein Kampf", when commenting on the speculation by the Chamberlain Government about the intentions of Hitler, "Why gaze into the crystal ball when you can read the book?"

United States tried to manipulate the outcome of Afghan presidential election in 2009.

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/jan/10/us-hamid-karzai-afghan-elections-robert-gates US 'tried to oust Hamid Karzai by manipulating Afghan elections' Robert Gates, former Defence Secretary   A little ironic. Hamid Karzai was a "consultant" for Halliburton, a contractor for the CIA and was a close friend of the Bush family for many years prior to being "elected" with massive American support, as President of Afghanistan in 2004, having been effectively filling the post since the  "Loya Jirga" or "Grand Assembly" of 2002, again with American support.  Strange then that Robert Gates, former Defence Secretary, should now reveal that the US tried to remove Karzai in the 2009 elections. President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan   Perhaps it is an example of the falling out of thieves.

Aeriel Sharon: The “the ultimate realist” ?

http://electronicintifada.net/blogs/david-cronin/immense-cruelty-ariel-sharon?utm_source=EI+readers&utm_campaign=5193c4c032-RSS_EMAIL_CAMPAIGN&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_e802a7602d-5193c4c032-290661941  The immense cruelty of Ariel Sharon Aeriel Sharon Ariel Sharon lies in the Sheba hospital near Tel Aviv. where he has been in a coma since 2006. As his condition deteriorates further, Doctors are saying that his life is in danger, and we should expect an announcement of his death at any time. When that happens, there will be the usual outpourings of grief, tributes from many world leaders and the endless reviews of his life and times in the media and on television. It should also be remembered what role Sharon played, as Israeli Defense Minister in the 1982 Sabra and Shatila massacre, the withdrawing of Israeli settlers from Gaza in 2005 whilst maintaining Israeli still control of Gaza’s air and sea borders, paving the way for a siege and the ong...

Medical decisions based on costs rather than benefit to patients.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/nhs/10562382/Fears-for-the-elderly-under-new-NHS-drugs-policy.html   Fears for the elderly under new NHS drugs policy   Elderly at risk ?   NICE is the organisation which bases its opinions, decisions and reports on financial cost , rater than medical benefit to the patient. If ever a whole department was eligible for the government austerity axe, NICE should be at the top of the hit list to be cut,  thereby saving money and lives.

Supermarkets feeling the pinch after years of "plenty"

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2014/01/09/morrisons-tesch-marks-spencer_n_4566246.html?utm_hp_ref=uk    Morrisons, Tesco, Marks & Spencer Sales Hit By Tough Christmas Who next? Following on from the "Years of plenty" when these supermarkets, particularly Tesco, were proudly announcing "record profits" running to £ Billions, I for one have little sympathy for the decline in their fortunes. It seems to me that the general downward trend in the high street and supermarkets fortunes has more to do with their previous profiteering and greed, forcing up prices at the expense of their customers and their suppliers. Now is the time for these companies to recognise that their prices are too high and have been for some time which is the predominant reason why people are now cutting back on their shopping expenditure. The supermarkets can join the rest of us and experience a dose of "austerity".

A thought for today (and every day perhaps)

This thought should be remembered by all those, who demonise, demean, mock, patronise or otherwise insult the sick, the disabled, the unemployed, the benefit claimants, those reliant on Foodbanks and other charities, the poor and the homeless and all those other sections of our society who are vulnerable and least able to defend themselves.
