I caught some of the Television coverage of the Winter Olympics this week and came to the conclusion that some of the competitors are either very brave or quite mad or even a combination of both. I do not refer to the curling event where large, heavy blocks of granite are slid along the ice towards a target of different coloured circles some distance away, while "sweepers" scrub frantically at the ice in front of the stone causing it to go faster or change direction or whatever. Curling is quite genteel and similar to a game of bowls on a lazy Sunday afternoon in Studland. I refer to an event called "Skeleton". Another of those mountain events where the contestant descends from the top of "the run" at great speed. This one however is different from the others in that the descent is made on what seems to be a small dinner tray fitted with a handle on top and a couple of ice skate blades underneath. Coming down a mountain at 150 kph (that is over 90 mph in real money) dressed in very little may seem like a great "buzz" to some people, but to do it "head first" might be taking things a bit far. As I said previously, very brave or quite mad or even a combination of both.
Having said that, congratulations to Lizzy Yarnold on becoming the first Briton to successfully defend her "Skeleton" title.

Image result for Boris Johnson theresa may warns that "people are determined to stop and overturn Brexit

Many speeches and interviews over the past week in respect of "Brexit"with still no clear direction from government of intention or purpose.
The country did not vote for a "leave at any price" resolution and many now realise that any other solution than the so called "soft Brexit" will be an unmitigated disaster for the United Kingdom, industry and British society generally. The guidance and leadership that we expect and deserve from government is lamentably missing from the current cabinet and its ministers, with each offering their own individual solutions and understandings of the current disarray, all of which are completely at odds with the speeches and briefings given by the Prime Minister, who should be in charge of the process but is too weak and inept to exert any discipline and leadership or her team.
Boris Johnson of course recognises this turmoil and cynically grasps another opportunity to bid for leadership by imploring all factions in the warring government to come together to prevent those forces seeking to overturn the referendum result and prevent Brexit being implemented.

Meanwhile, back in Jersey, Condor are still plagued by "technical problems" and those pesky French stevedores striking in St Malo.
Condor announced that Wednesday’s services (in fact there was no scheduled sailing for Wednesday anyway. It was Thursday. Condor confused again.) had also been cancelled but the vessel was expected to return to service on Friday.
"Additional maintenance (on Rapide), has been completed in dock and, coupled with adverse weather in the English Channel, means Rapide will reposition to St Malo in time to resume her schedule on Friday. We do apologise for the inconvenience this has caused but anticipate that Rapide’s return to service will enable passengers to complete their half-term travel as planned".
Condor has an endless supply of appologies and excuses in respect of their lamentable service provision which they trot out at every holiday period. The islanders are fed up with the poor service from this operator and we can only speculate as to why the States of Jersey allow this situation to continue year after year.

Outside my window it is foggy. Well actually it is very low cloud which is quite usual for this part of the country for this time of year. It eventually stopped raining and the lanes seem to be getting back to normal as the flooding recedes.. Still no snow even hough it is very cold.
In what must be some kind of record, I have completeed this email without one mention of the Express !

Have a nice week

John

Enough of this hysterical nonsense

http://style.uk.msn.com/royal-baby/how-will-the-royal-baby-look-as-he-grows-up Media generated hysteria.                           This is too much. For the last 36 hours (thought it seems more like 36 days) there has been wall to wall news coverage, media and television comment and reporting, with Sky News taking first prize for frenzied minute by minute reporting from the Palace, the hospital, from a village somewhere in England, from the studio and anywhere else that Burley, Botting and company could stick a microphone into some obscure "celebrity's" face and ask for yet another banal quote. All this galvanising the mass hysteria of some elements of the public, (who the media would have you believe is the reaction of "the whole world",) with their flag waving, dancing, singing and cheering over what is after all, no more than a woman having a bab...

New Agenda on Sunday is out Sunday, Apr. 28, 2019

https://paper.li/f-1346065353#/ Good morning everyone. Last weeks scare regarding Megan and Harry being sent to live "somewhere in Africa" seems to have been dispelled, at least for the time being. It now seems that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will take up residence in California.  Unless  they are actually  doing  some proper work in "The Golden State", I hope that they are taken off the civil list so that we do not have to fund their life choice. The nauseating Daily Mail is at it again. A headline this week, which I will not even bother to reproduce here, screams out in disgusting and repulsive bias without any acknowledgement to the factual basis of their "story". Spewing out their usual smears and embellished distortions about Hamas, the IRA, Hezbollah and the rest, the Mail condemns itself with ample justification, for the closure of a "newspaper," which again abuses 10 fold, the privilege of "freedom of t...

A perverse and rather sinister media obsession to discredit, smear and undermine Jeremy Corbyn

http://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/venezuela-jeremy-corbyn-blasted-for-not-condemning-president-maduro-a3606156.html#commentsDiv Venezuela: Jeremy Corbyn blasted for not condemning socialist President Nicolas Maduro as violent conflict escalates There is a perverse and rather sinister obsesseion with the media and particularly television "interveiwers", in seeking to secure from Jeremy Corbyn a "condemnation" of some person or organisation or event. This time it is connected with events in Venezuela and the actions of President Nicolas Maduro and the bloody crackdown on protests against the result of last weeks poll which inaugurated a constituent assembly . The media "stories" and the interrogation by the television interviewers, are as subtle as a sledgehammer being nothing more than a variation on the "Have you stopped beating your wife yet?" question, which so many repoters use in order for them to make themselves appear very ...
