Theresa May escapes threat of leadership challenge as 1922 Committee rejects changing rules.
Now it becomes clear. After weeks or even months of speculation, rumour and positioning, the lies and hypocrisy are ex[posed as nothing more than cynical tactics. It is now as plain as the nose on your face that Conservative MP's had no intention of ousting Theresa May from the Premiership, as the influential 122 Committee decide not to change the rules for election of their party leader. To what extent Constituency Associations and ordinary party members were involved in this cynical ploy we can only speculate, but the probability is that only a few members of the 1922 Committee and just a small handful of MP's hatched a plot to drum up sympathy for May and at the same time to push the "May Brexit deal," through the house of Commons. Having pushed the "May deal" to three significant defeats in the house, the collaborators now seem to have changed tactics and have discarded the charade of removing Theresa May "as quickly as possible" to endorsing her leadership until December of this year at the very earliest. This is well beyond the Brexit deadline and well beyond the party conference. Again, the Tory hierarchy is exposed as cynical liars, able to mislead the public and even many of their own party members with untruth and evasion.

Another reason for this change of tactic, is that the 1922 Committee have come to realise that no one in the Conservative actually wants the job in any case at this time. The boom and bluster from the usual suspects masks the reality that the Premiership at this time is no more than a poison chalice which will destroy any political ambitions that they may hold for the long term and it is better to retain Theresa May as their sacrifice in exchange for long term gain.
Behind all this manoeuvring, posturing and plotting, there remains the one probability which dominates the Conservative party thinking at all levels. Conservatives and media not to mention the establishment generally, are petrified at the prospect of a Jeremy Corbyn led government gaining power and taking over Number 10. It seems that the prospect of this coming to pass is far more terrifying for the Tories than any other possibility, including Theresa May remaining in office.
