Of all the privatisation scams perpetrated by the then government, the privatisation of water was the greatest iniquity of them all. Not only are these parasite water companies responsible for extortionate charges for the basic commodity of life, but they also pollute our rivers and beaches with, it seems, complete impunity from prosecution or responsibility for their actions. In the unlikely event of criminal charges being brought, the miserly maximum fine of £2 million, would have little impact on the huge profits made by these companies and would in any case, be passed on to their customers in the form of even higher prices.
If ever there was a compelling case for re nationalising a privatised company, then water fills the position of number one on the list.
