PM in complete denial losing her grip on power and on reality.
Loosing her grip on power. |
The Prime Minister Theresa May, is now in complete denial of the reality in which she finds herself. In much the same way as a child threatens to take its ball and go home, the Prime Minister again writes to all MP's, threatening that the THIRD "Meaningful Vote", may not be put before the commons next week unless there is substantial support from MP's to pass it. In order to reinforce this threat, the Prime Minister repeats her 4 points from the meeting with the other EU leaders in Brussels.
1. We can revoke Article 50 - but that would be to betray the result of the referendum.2. We can leave with no deal on 12 April - but the House has previously said this is not something it will support.3. If it appears that there is not sufficient support to bring the deal back next week, or the House rejects it again, we can ask for another extension before 12 April - but that will involve holding European Parliament elections.4. If it appears that there is sufficient support and the Speaker permits it, we can bring the deal back next week and if it is approved we can leave on 22 May. She closes by saying, "I hope we can all agree that we are now at the moment of decision. If you would like to speak to me over the coming days as Parliament prepares to take momentous decisions, please contact my office."
She clearly has not heard, or perhaps more accurately chooses to ignore, the now almost constant barrage of criticism and calls from her own benches for her to stand down and the daily stream of judgements from what has historically been a friendly press. Today's papers are perhaps the most hostile so far.
Authority in tatters, as power leeches from Theresa May. screams the Financial Times
MP's call for May to "fall on her sword". says the Guardian.
Mays last stand says the Express.
PM loosing her grip on power. From the Independent.
May gambles with Vote on customs union from the usually supportive Telegraph and Pressure grows on Theresa May to quit must have been uncomfortable reading in the Times over breakfast in number 10 this morning.
We have been hearing it for many months, from the flawed decision to call a general election through a disastrous Conservative Party Conference and numerous poor performances at PMQ's, and now culminating in shuttling back and forth between Brussels and Downing Street, and blaming 650 MP's for her own lack of progress. We have heard it all before, but surely this cannot go on for much longer. As one conservative MP put it, "She will be gone in three weeks".
Beware the idiot to follow her though
