New Agenda on Sunday. is out! Edition of 24th September 2017

Good morning everyone.

Image result for harlequins 28 against Leicester tigers 31

I watched Harlequins against Leicester Tigers yesterday from the Stoop (BT Sport Channel. Live transmission). A great game which the Tigers won by 31 points to 28 thanks to the boot of George Ford. Cracking tries from both sides with the final result not predictable right up until the clock went red on 80 minutes. What was missing from the entire match however, was the spectacle of men running round in circles after scoring, avoiding the clutches of team mates, while having their shirts pulled up over their heads and with oustretched arms, imitating some kind of aeroplane (as many of us may have done when we were 5 years old.) Also absent was the sight of grown men slidding across the grass on their knees again with arms outstretched inviting the adulation of
the spectators before being buried under the bodies of team mates jumping into an ever growing heap of players in some sort of erotic ritual.
Somebody once said that rugby is a gentlemens game played by chidren. Who ever it was, certainly got a little confused as to what game the chidren actually play.

Image result for Donald Trump's address to the United Nations

I listend to the whole of Donald Trump's address to the United Nations.
Long and rambling, the "speech" seemed to last for hours and covered the usual "America does not wish to impose its values or way of life on other nations" and "America will do what ever is necessary to defeat the evil regimes of Bashar Al-Assad in Syria, the Iranian dictatorship, Terrorism, Al Qaeda" etc etc.
Trump also stated that America will totally destroy North Korea.
If he was expecting standing ovations every few minutes, he was sadly dissappointed.Only the occasional ripple of applause broke what was a very quiet Assembly Hall.
However, what became very apparent by the end of his oration was that not only is Trump a racist, a misogynist and a hypocritical war monger, he is also a very dangerous hypocrite and war monger.
The American people have elected a megalomaniac to the position of most powerful man on the planet and the rest of the world will pay the price.

Image result for In Florence, Prime Minister Theresa May

As Mr Davies would frequently remind boys during his Physics lectures, "Empty vessels make the most noise". In Florence, Prime Minister Theresa May demonstrated this ancient proverb to perfection with her keynote speech on Brexit. Plenty of noise but very little, if any, substance. If the British people are seeking guidance and leadership through the negotiations and though the post Brexit period and beyond, we shall have to look elsewhere than to Thersa May and this splintered government.

Image result for category 5 hurricanes lash the Caribbean

A series of category 5 hurricanes lash the Caribbean from the Virgin Islands through Puerto Rico, Dominica and Cuba all the way to Florida. It may or may not be a symptom of Global Warming, though on balance it probably is, as we cannot dispute the evidence that these events are becoming more and more frequent over recent years and months. However, we can dismiss the explanation given by one American Senator from the "Bible belt" of the USA (although the theory is probably endorsed by many Americans, including I suspect Trump himself), that these natural disasters are a "punishment" for the GLTB people within our society.

Image result for theresa may in florence

The life expectancy of this conservative government can be counted in months rather than years.
Similarly, the expectations of Theresa May to remain as Leader of the Conservative party and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom cannot last beyond next Christmas or perhaps even less.

They are still predicting the week ahead will be cold, wet and windy. At least we avoid the category 5 hurricanes

Have a nice week

Northern Ireland and Brexit. The return of "The Troubles"

Northern Ireland: police attacked in another night of disturbances | Northern Ireland | The Guardian When the "Brexit" debate was still filling our newspapers and our television screens, readers may remember why I had changed my mind since voting to leave at the referendum vote. Apart from the economic arguments, which had become crystal clear after peeling away all the lies and misrepresentations trotted out by Bozo Boris and his "Get Brexit Done" conspirators, there was always the problem of the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Would it be possible to have a border between the European Union and the United Kingdom where people, goods and services could pass freely between the two nations without customs restrictions, tariffs, duties and all the other formalities? Would it be possible to have one part of the United Kingdom treated differently from other parts of the United Kingdom, particularly when Scotland for example had voted overwhe...

Enough of this hysterical nonsense

http://style.uk.msn.com/royal-baby/how-will-the-royal-baby-look-as-he-grows-up Media generated hysteria.                           This is too much. For the last 36 hours (thought it seems more like 36 days) there has been wall to wall news coverage, media and television comment and reporting, with Sky News taking first prize for frenzied minute by minute reporting from the Palace, the hospital, from a village somewhere in England, from the studio and anywhere else that Burley, Botting and company could stick a microphone into some obscure "celebrity's" face and ask for yet another banal quote. All this galvanising the mass hysteria of some elements of the public, (who the media would have you believe is the reaction of "the whole world",) with their flag waving, dancing, singing and cheering over what is after all, no more than a woman having a bab...

A perverse and rather sinister media obsession to discredit, smear and undermine Jeremy Corbyn

http://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/venezuela-jeremy-corbyn-blasted-for-not-condemning-president-maduro-a3606156.html#commentsDiv Venezuela: Jeremy Corbyn blasted for not condemning socialist President Nicolas Maduro as violent conflict escalates There is a perverse and rather sinister obsesseion with the media and particularly television "interveiwers", in seeking to secure from Jeremy Corbyn a "condemnation" of some person or organisation or event. This time it is connected with events in Venezuela and the actions of President Nicolas Maduro and the bloody crackdown on protests against the result of last weeks poll which inaugurated a constituent assembly . The media "stories" and the interrogation by the television interviewers, are as subtle as a sledgehammer being nothing more than a variation on the "Have you stopped beating your wife yet?" question, which so many repoters use in order for them to make themselves appear very ...
