Theresa May will not lead us into next election, say top Tories
Theresa May said that it was not in the nation's interest to call a general election. A comment that she repeated frequently.
In June of this year, she called a snap general election, almost four years earlier than the 2020 scheduled date. During that general election campaign, she said that "nothing has changed", when announcing a "U turn" on the conservative manifesto commitment on the so called dementia tax as part of the social care policies. Yesterday, (31st August), Theresa May said that she is “here for the long term” and will remain Prime Minister into the next parliament. Today, it is abundantly clear that "Senior Tories", Party Grandees, Conservative MP's and many conservative members have rejected her assertion and are seeking to replace her as soon as possible.
The Prime Minister has been in difficulties since June of this year as her untenable, weak position has become weaker by the day. Her performance as Prime Minister over her period in office has been poor and has declined even further since her disaterous general election campaign and result. The people of this country deserve better from a government, particularly during this time of Brexit negotiations. We must expect a change of leadership in the conservative party very soon, followed by another general electionperhaps as early as February of next year. A lame duck government, propped up by 10 DUP MP's in the House of Commons is not good for the country and must be replaced without delay.
