I am becoming increasingly concerned and incensed by the distorted, prejudiced and mischievous reporting of the attempted assassination of Sergei Skripal generally, and the media generated "rebellion" within the Labour party in particular. Leaving aside the scurrilous feature concerning Jeremy Corbyn on the "BBC Newsnight" programme, which reduced the BBC and the programme to the levels of the gutter press with its photoshopped images and extreme bias, there is a sinister trend in media reporting which has exceeded the limits of acceptability.
It is abundantly clear that the "political crisis" within the Labour party exists only in the pages of the usual suspects of the National papers, the television News Channels, a few disgruntled MP's and the "media pundits" who are all too keen to tell their audiences that "Corbyn got it wrong". However, it is difficult to find many people outside this media bubble who actually agree with that proposition. It seems that the the "media circus" as a whole has created an atmosphere of dissent by accentuating the comments of a few MP's, who are well known for their inclinations to criticise the leadership regardless of the reasons or validity.This, coupled with the "gung ho" anti Russian rhetoric, provides a platform to hype up Theresa May into some form of ersatz Margaret Thatcher taking on the nasty Russians with some newspapers going completely over the top, describing the Prime Minister as "Churchillian"! The fact that she is proposing measures which only 10 days ago were being tabled by Jeremy Corbyn is conveniently forgotten. The howls of derision and laughter in the Commons and media at Corbyn, are now replaced by admiration and praise for May as the euphoric insanity of seeking to look tough only exposes her weakness and fragility.
As the days go by, then the more tenuous becomes the media campaign both in terms of who the perpetrators of the attempted murder actually are, and to what extent the views of the few MP's interviewed by the media, actually represent the views of the public generally. This whole episode is yet another exercise, perhaps the most blatant and scurrilous yet, to discredit and undermine the leadership of Jeremy Corbyn.
As with such schemes in the past, the evidence suggests that this one too will backfire.

For the last 36 hours (thought it seems more like 36 days) there has been wall to wall news coverage, media and television comment and reporting, with Sky News taking first prize for frenzied minute by minute reporting from the Palace, the hospital, from a village somewhere in England, from the studio and anywhere else that Burley, Botting and company could stick a microphone into some obscure "celebrity's" face and ask for yet another banal quote.
