Good morning everyone.

Image result for Asda self serve check out

We went into ASDA the other day for the first time in a long time. Only needing a few small items, we very soon went to the check out. What surprised me was the number of "self serve" checkout tills. Certainly there were more than the last time we were in the store and quite a few people were going through them, but there were still queues at the tills where there was an operator. Now, I do not have a degree in rocket science and as I have had experience of the "self serve" previously, we went to the other check out and joined the queue. When we eventually reached the point of paying I got into a conversation with the woman at the till and mentioned that there were more self serve machines than the last time we were in and that we are not great fans of this relatively new phenomenon. Neither was she apparently and nor are her colleagues in the store. Moreover she stated that ASDA were installing another batch of self serve machines which would reduce the number of operated check outs to just THREE! I can understand that companies are eager to reduce costs, but ASDA have gone really overboard and I assume that other supermarkets will be following suit. The will all eventually pay the price.

Chequers BREXIT meeting

The BREXIT chaos continues with government ministers all singing a different song depending upon which one you ask and what the day is. After the Chequers "Final Solution to the Brexit problem" cabinet agreement, comes another crunch meeting to create cabinet unity this time for a "No deal" Brexit. This government lurches from crisis to crisis on the Brexit and cabinet unity issues while Europe and the rest of us look on in stunned disbelief that a government can be so inept for so long on an issue of national importance.
Step aside Theresa and take your government with you and let people who do know what to do to fix your mess.

The anti semitism row and various threats to leave the party continue to haunt the Labour party. You can read my thoughts on this at the following pages:

Image result for Saudi airstrikes in Yemen kills schoolchildren

The civil war in Yemen rages on with more children being killed in airstrikes by the Saudi led coalition. The Saudi Arabian government seems to have implemented a new policy for their coalition forces involved in the Yemen civil war. Simply put, they seem to believe that if they kill enough Yemeni children, there will be no adults around to resist their brutally barbaric and inhuman regime and its aggressive intervention in other countries. This is the second attack on children in two weeks in a civil war which had already killed thousands of civilians in the Saudi led coalition airstrikes over the past three years. The munitions used against these civilians is predominantly supplied by the United Kingdom and the United States as Saudi Arabia is a close ally in the war against terrorism. Hypocrisy in its most crass form.

Northern Ireland and Brexit. The return of "The Troubles"

Northern Ireland: police attacked in another night of disturbances | Northern Ireland | The Guardian When the "Brexit" debate was still filling our newspapers and our television screens, readers may remember why I had changed my mind since voting to leave at the referendum vote. Apart from the economic arguments, which had become crystal clear after peeling away all the lies and misrepresentations trotted out by Bozo Boris and his "Get Brexit Done" conspirators, there was always the problem of the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Would it be possible to have a border between the European Union and the United Kingdom where people, goods and services could pass freely between the two nations without customs restrictions, tariffs, duties and all the other formalities? Would it be possible to have one part of the United Kingdom treated differently from other parts of the United Kingdom, particularly when Scotland for example had voted overwhe

Plemont development or return to nature?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-jersey-  A date has been set for a public inquiry into plans for Plemont Headland. This exceptional location must be sold to the National trust for Jersey, and returned to nature. Any other outcome involving development of the site, can only demonstrate the extent to which greed and self interest have become endemic in Jersey.

The Parliamentary Labour Party conspirators are hatching another coup.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/corbyn-labour-leadership-rebel-mps-a7202641.html Labour MPs plan for Corbyn victory  and plot how to confront an emboldened leader Even for the "Independent", the number and use of unnamed anonymous "sources" in this article is quite astonishing. However, amongst all the usual speculative delusion, there is one factor which causes concern to anyone who believes in the Labour Party, its principles and in he democratic process of the Labour movement. It is abundantly clear that elements within the Parliamentary Labour Party, are even now, planning another coup in the event that Jeremy Corbyn should emerge as winner in the current ballot. The failed coup of earlier this year, has now descended into a sham leadership election, because the conspirators still fail to accept the democratic decision of the Labour party membership and cling to
