The hallmark of the bully is that when challenged they immediately claim that they are the victims. I for one will attempt to defend my party against those who seek to destroy it regardless of the smears and jibes which have already been thrown in my direction.
I agree with Gordon Brown that we must combat racism and antisemitism within our party, but apart from those measures we have already taken, what else should we do?
Rather than banging on about being "radical" or "we must do more", let us have some firm proposals rather than empty rhetoric, which in fact only plays into the hands of those who constantly seek to undermine our party for their own ends.
Labour’s fight against antisemitism must be far more radical. says Gordon Brown
Gordon Brown enters the debate on "antisemitism" in the Labour party writing an article under the headline of "Labour’s fight against antisemitism must be far more radical" and stating " we must take stronger action". Again a "senior Labour party figure" jumps in with the we must do more rhetoric, but then writes a long article which fails to address what we should do. It is all too easy to bleat on about not doing enough, but to then fail to state what we should do is a gross abdication of political argument. Brown does make some wild and unfounded allegations regarding some social media comments suggesting that only antisemites post messages. "These messages are not appearing by accident: they are specifically designed by antisemites to lure people into targeting and demonising the Jewish people as a whole". says Brown. This is of course arrant nonsense. Gordon Brown does what many others are doing every single day that this "antisemitism" furor rages on the internet, fuelled and encouraged by a hostile media. No matter what measures are put in place in the party, the NEC or even in special investigations, it will never be enough for those groups and individuals who for their own motives are seeking a regime change in the leadership and structure of the Labour party.
There is no truth or credibility in repeating the same arguments and statements time after time and day after day in the hope that constant bullying and intimidation will one day overcome any resistance to those forces seeking a change to the way this party conducts itself. I am the first to admit that there are elements within the Labour who are antisemitic, but that is true in any organisation, club or society where a small number of members can be described as antisemites. In an organisation of more than 400,000 members it is bound to be the case that some antisemites will be found. However, that is no justification for the level of hysterical bullying and intimidation thrown at members of the party using antisemitism as some sort of weapon and then screaming with indignation when the members respond. The hallmark of the bully is that when challenged they immediately claim that they are the victims. I for one will attempt to defend my party against those who seek to destroy it regardless of the smears and jibes which have already been thrown in my direction.
