The years of the Conservative government merry go round comedy and chaos on the question of Brexit, descended even further into farce yesterday (22nd May), as Theresa May allegedly barricaded herself into the cabinet room at Number 10 locked all the doors and refused to receive visits from Jeremy Hunt, Sajid Javid and other cabinet members. This was the culmination of a day which witnessed the Prime Minister deliver a statement to the Commons, detailing her plan for the Withdrawal Bill, which would be the 4th iteration of "her deal" to be presented to the House, in order to reach agreement on implementing Brexit. A significant number of MP's, including Labour, Liberal Democrats, SNP, and DUP, in addition to scores of Conservatives, had already stated that the "new deal" is not acceptable and would be voted down when and if the deal was brought back.
This would probably explain why there were so many empty spaces on the Government benches during PMQ's and which remained vacant when the PM delivered her statement. It was clear then to all, that he Prime Minister's time had finally run out as groups of Conservative members scuttled off to hold their own discussions as to who should be the next leader and when the transfer should happen. Theresa May however, who has been described as a limpet, managed to stave off any attempts to remove her there and then and retreated the bunker of Number 10 from where she has now managed to push a meeting with the 1922 Committee to "discuss her position". off until Friday at the earliest. The PM has been of the verge of departing many times over the last few months and yet she remains. She has resisted attempts to remove her from office many times recently, and may even survive this one. The mind boggles.
